I'm in need of trained eyes. Could this be contaminated or is this just some rockin mycelium?
It smells a little sweet.
Thanks you for your feedback!

Picture of the rest of the jar?? I am not seeing anything wrong but it definitely time to get it out of that jar and on to sub. Oysters will smell a bit sweet.

The point of using grain or wbs to expand spawn is that you will have a zillion points of incubation when you dump it into your fruiting substrate. Each grain starts a colony. That purpose is defeated if the grains are allowed to grow together into one big clump. You're going to have to dig that out of the jar with a sterile fork and scratch into as many pieces as you can while putting it into your sub.

Just break it up... Banging the jar on the side of a tire works really well. It takes a good 6-8 weeks for my oyster jars to be to the point that I can't break them up anymore.

Interesting, it takes me about 10 to 14 days till oyster jars are almost impossible to break apart. For reishi its even faster. Refrigerating them is the only way i can keep them past 14 days.

are you using wheat? most of the time 4 weeks is when I start to throw jars out for being too old. I could still break up some of them but they are super slow to transfer to bag.
Well and those numbers are generally if I am going from ajar to grain. If I do grain to grain it's definitely a week faster.

Interesting, the difference with our "eye"s. I see a solid mass of consolidated grain that is far past anything I have ever been able to break up with banging, no matter what it's age. Especially near the bottom of the jar -- you can hardly see any grain at all!
