WHERE do I start?

I tried growing edible mushrooms over ten years ago when I started the site... But I screwed it up royally!!! only got a yield of about 3.5 grams when I should have gotten at LEAST an ounce or two It got me so discouraged that I gave up on it for many years.. until now! So I am looking to try again but this is all foreign to me. So heres the random questions! First off, how often does one have to overlook the process? I plan on doing with a friend at his house a couple hours away.. So I wont have access to them until I REALLY have to. Im going to have him do as much research as possible too.
So in order to avoid failure and lack of sterility, I plan on going for a bunch of pre-made mycobags... Then with these, I wanna do the bulk substate... I guess with monotubs right? So if I am not around to overlook a lot of this, how often would I have to go visit my friend? From what I gather, not much has to be done until there is full mycelium growth in the bags... Do they need to be a little warm at this point, and do they need put in someplace dark? Are there any precautions I need when working with these mycobags?
So then with he mycobags, I was going to mix the matured myscelium from the bags and break them up to mix with other ingredients... such as vermiculite and cocoir correct? This is where I get a little confused. Does it still have to be in a COMPLETELY sterile environment? Does it need to be humid and warm, and it also needs to be misted daily correct? Do I need heating pad, and do I need sunlight or should I avoid it during this part?
So what are the supplies I need to do all this. I wanted to do a bulk substrate because I do not intend on doing it more than once most likely. I would REALLY appreciate if people could just straight up answer the questions, but a couple links to the right TEKS would help a LOT too. It REALLY helps when there are picture teks because it makes me feel more comfortable that I am doing all this correctly.
I cant express how much I appreciate all this help. It means the world to me.
Thanks

All the info you could ever need... for just $9. Never have to ask another tech question again (till you get pretty darn good). Seriously, it will save you many hours of forum scraping, failed attempts (these cost $) and getting misinformation and BS from noobs. Well worth it.

First, you gotta get the spores to germinate in the bags to grow mycelium(spawn).
Then you gotta mix the spawn with pasteurized substrate(coir, vermiculite, gypsum, or whatever you choose to use) and let it colonize. Mixing in a monotub is very popular.
Once colonized, you will need to introduce fruiting conditions.
That's the basic rundown of the process.
You have a lot of reading to do. Hopefully, I used enough common terminology to give you some good things to search.
Here are some excellent links to get you going. Don't do anything till you feel you really understand. Otherwise, you can ruin your stuff.

http://www.mushroomvideos.com/ is almost all you need, try to get a spore syringe if possible, prints are harder to work with. Also make a still-air box if you haven't already. Lots of reading helps.
good luck.

I'm kinda drunk, so sorry if I seem confused but what are you growing?
I've had a lot of success with blue and king oysters and "logs" (kings with a sawdust bulk sub but that's only because I have read it was necessary, not out of experienced with straight straw)
If your growing actives (which I would assume from your tub questions) then you should state so as it would be a lot of help to determine your issues.
Also from your op I'm having an issue understanding how you only got a few grams from an edible grow? (unless your drying them for some reason... I've done the same with oysters for soup though as I've had tons lately...)
