Newbie with "alternative" methods of growing

Hey guys. My brother and I are completely new at growing, so we didn't have any of the things you're supposed to use to grow. All we had was three 12cc syringes. We're also kinda broke. So we decided to try something completely off the wall.
Basically, we used some simple biology to grow 2cc's of Pink Buffalo. We took a jar and filled it with alternating layers of naturally decomposing wood and regular potting soil, then filled it about 1/3 of the way with water so that the decomposes a little faster. Then we sterilized it and added our spores. What're your thoughts on this? Do you think this will work, or will it be a complete waste? I'll post any results we have on here. Thanks for any input!

But it will grow off of wood Ive seen it with my very own eyes. What worries me is it sounds like the water content is way too high and if so that's a complete waste. Either way sounds like you got a fun little experiment. Don't expect much mushrooms if any at all though.

My vote is no.
Sounds like someone read for about 30 seconds and decided.. "Oh yea we can do this."

Everyone always suggests BRF cakes but I think they're waay more expensive than WBS. Plus with WBS you can do G2G which saves you from that whole tedious process of syringe injecting/making.

A 12 pack of mason jars is around $10 at publix. A bag of brown rice flower is $4 at publix as well. A bag of vermiculite is only $4 at Lowe's. How on earth can you not afford $20?!
I'm assuming you are kids with no jobs. Don't try to cultivate active mushrooms at your parent's house. That's just wrong.

And then you'll also need a tub, a drill and some perlite for the SGFC. It'll blow your budget.

i agree to this but also think brf should be recomended to new growers who cant grasp the harder teks yet. however in the words of a hero "sometimes you gotta run befor you can walk"

there's something alot of people seem to be forgetting.....you dont actually NEED to make an sgfc. my first pf tek fruiting chamber was just a mini tub with perlite, i fan and misted a few times a day but the flushes came out picture perfect. if you have the money then yes an sgfc is ideal but if you dont then just make a regular fruiting chamber.
