Checking the patches today in North GA, already stumbled upon a brilliant specimen of Amanita Muscaria var. Formosa. Hopefully, I can come across some of the reclusive Ps Atlantis!

Has anyone found amanita muscaria in north GA yet? is it still too hot for them? should I wait till it gets a bit colder to start looking for them?
I love hunting for them while i'm tripping; they look so big and magical.

They are a distinct species from muscaria. They will be renamed to their own species, most likely just Amanita persicina, in a paper to be out soon.

Yes, its an Amanita, and that's about all I can confirm at this point from that photo. It could be Amanita guessowii, Amanita persicina, sp S01, who knows. My bet would be persicina.
