Hard to tell. It should be further along than that at two weeks though. What type of bag/filter/container is it? Not a good idea to open the bag/container to take a picture. Very efficient way to introduce green in a hurry.

I dont think green is such a problem with hardwood loving species...
What kind of woodchips are those? Is there anything else in the substrate? How did you prepare them?

thanks for your replies I am totally new to cultivation of mushrooms and this is my first trial - so excuse me if I have done mistakes
so regarding to substrate - i prepared the following mixture (3KG)
1% chalk 25% straw 75% wood shavings (i have no idea from which wood it was taken, the package only says 100% natural wood - I bought it for €2 only so I won't be surprised if it is softwood) 1 cup sugar
I've wet everything and then placed them for 20 minute in the microwave
after it cooled, I added 60 grams of Shiitake spawn and mixed it well
I placed it in a plastic container and covered it with a bag on top
Now it has been there for 2 weeks

I am noticing that most of the growth is on the straw and little on the wood shavings

I have never used sugar in any of my grows. That seems awfully rich. A cup of bran for shiitake in 3kg would be pushing it. If you don't have a pressure cooker try the shiitake with just the first three ingredients and pasteurize it. Shiitake will need some type of filter for air exchange too. It won't grow well without a bit of air.

thanks for your comment i added sugar to compensate for the lack of nutrients in case the shavings are from soft wood (from the price I take it that it is soft)
I did not seal the container - it is loosely closed with a bag so there is an exchange of air (no filter though but so far doesn't seem that i have a contamination)

sugar. no. Don't add it! A little whole grain bran will go a long way as previously stated.
To me the shavings look like pine. Conifer trees have anti microbial/anti fungal properties to them.
I would try again and try to find a place to obtain oak and other hardwood chips/shavings. Sawmills. tree trimmer folks. arborists. the local utility companies. all good sources for wood chips.

There is nothing wrong with adding sugar as a supplement. Sometimes i do it for lions mane or king oysters too; it is not an uncommon ingredient in a sawdust substrate mix.

Definitely not. Shitakes need a fairly fresh hardwood substrate. As for the sugar...never tried that. We always used rye & wheat bran as a source of glucose.

Trichoderma can infect blocks if you have not enough FAE and too much moisture. It looked like the block was really dry though.

I never knew about adding sugar ever. I only cultivate shiitake on plugged logs.
The japanese use 2-3kg sugar per 100kg of woodchips. http://www.alohamedicinals.com/book2/chapter-4-03.pdf

the few instructions that i got say that it is okay to use softwood (instead of hardwood) but then you have to supplement it with other nutrients e.g. sugar thus why I added the sugar

It is getting more evident that almost all the growth that i am having is on the straw and little to none on the wood shavings - do you think it would be a good idea if next time i try to grow it on 100% straw?

This shiitake was grown on plain, pasteurized unsupplemented straw.

It is also an example of less pins makes for bigger fruits!

Do you keep opening the container to check / take pictures?

It's not just about contamination. Mycelium really like a high amount of CO2 in the atmosphere while colonizing. If the o2 levels spike it slows down growth. better for the mycelium to maintain high co2 but it's also good to learn by watching.
