mom got diagnosed with lupis
    #18748988 - 08/23/13 08:55 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

First she got rhumitoid arthritis and now lupis too

So the RA will eat her bones as the lupis eats her organs

Shes 50-55 years old about

First we thought the stuff on her skin that was popping up was ringworm but nope, incurable degenerative disease

She seems to be semi in denial about how much it's effected her. She says she doesn't care and she's glad it wasnt ringworm so other people didnt get effected too, i guess it takes some time for her to fully absorb it. Its made me kinda sad knowing about it

I can hope she doesnt feel too crappy i guess

Send some good vibes or talk about lupis or do whatever

That's rough man. My mom was diagnosed with it probably 25 years ago. It's a terrible disease. She still gets a lot of joy out of life though. Her attitude about things rocks. So keep your head up man, and be there for her. She can get through this.

That's too bad man. Good vibes incoming.

On the bright side she has a good excuse to be high on opiates for the rest of her life. Hard to feel sad when you've got fentanyl patch on each arm while smoke a nice, fat, medicinal joint.

Damn that's got to be a hard thing to go through. Definitely try to be there for her and make the most of the time that you have with her right now.

My cousin was diagnosed at 13-14?? and she was not expected to finish high school. Shes now almost thirty and looks great, works a regular job (and a tattoo artist at that) and lives a "regular" life (though I know she has bad days).

I guess my point in mentioning that is that theres no way of knowing what life will be like (and I'm sure staying positive helps a ton) a few years from now,
But you CAN do everything possible to be the best kid a parent could ever dream of having.

:heart::heart:

p.s.
I'm sure a late Mother's Day gift couldn't hurt either

Well hey I guess these add some good vibes to the situation. I don't really know much about lupis, I'll have to do some research. All I know is she told me it eats away at ur organs.

We shared a big hug after she vented to me for a little. She was ranting about her half-denial about not caring about the lupis among other things.

This was kind of a wake up call to appreciate what I have with her.

No matter what happens in life everything is always going to be okay in the end

Thanks for the good wishes guys, you're all great

I knew a guy who got diagnosed with lupis and had a second opinion which confirmed he had no lupis.

It's alright

I'd think the pain is more with my mom but it's okay

I just made this thread during the little initial shock after she told me. But things will be how they go

Just remember, Lupus is not a death sentence. It is a disorder which can be debilitating at times and may potentially have peripheral detrimental effects, but should not be viewed as a terminal illness.

Lupus is a condition that usually manifests as flares; spontaneous outbreaks of symptoms and a series of remissions where the person may feel completely better. The flares may seem like the body is allergic to itself, and certain parts are attacked by the immune system. Sometimes this leads to serious damage in the long term, sometimes its just a serious nuisance that needs careful management.
I'm no expert on the subject by any means, but someone close to me does have this disorder and lives a happy life in spite of the illness.

My advice is to research, research, research. If able, have your mom join some online Lupus groups. Talking with others is always a great help, especially when your symptoms make you feel isolated and alone.

Good luck man, and best wishes to you and your mom.

I can completely relate to this, both personally and because of my mother.

Please know that as tough as it will be at times, not everything will be bleak from here on out. She'll have her bad days, bad weeks, but more importantly then those she'll have her great days, and great weeks. Take pride in knowing that you are a source of love and happiness for someone going through something tough.

About her denial: remember that we all deal with things differently. Just because it doesn't seem like she's accepting/dealing with it, doesn't mean she isn't. I don't have lupus but I do have something very similar and I don't often talk about it. When I do, I usually just say that I'm feeling sick without getting into the details. Just be comforting and be there for her while not losing yourself.

I've had friends and one guy that I dated recently who would react negatively when I would cancel plans because of it which was probably the worst part. Someone with a chronic pain disorder, especially one that isn't physically obvious, already deals with guilt for not being able to do everything everyone else can and those who add to that guilt only worsen the situation. That being said, that does not mean that you can't express how you're feeling to her. It may be imperative to your own sanity. She knows that no matter what, you love her and that's the most important thing.

This is going to be a journey for her, one that will change her life but that doesn't have to be all bad and it won't be. Not with understanding and loving people around. You guys will get through this, no matter what that means. Keep your head up .

My phone had been acting up but I just fixed it yesterday so feel free to call me or text me ANYTIME that you're feeling down, need to vent, or just need to forget. & I can always hop on webcam too. You're not alone, not by a long shot.

Everything will be okay, that I know more then anything else in this world. Everything is always temporary and everything will be okay.
