Spore viability question

Hi all. I was wondering how destructible/(contaminable? don't for a minute think that I actually think this is a real word, but you know what I am saying) spores are? For instance, if I took a spoon of pure spores and mixed them in dirt or clay or stuck them to my shoe, would I be able to reclaim them and go on to grow them into mushrooms? Would they get contaminated if they were stuck to my shoe?

You can use contaminated spores to successfully grow mushrooms if you are using agar. You can grow them out on a 2d plane and transfer healthy myc away from the contam

they could possibly be viable. but as a source of transport, it would be incredibly unreliable.

So if I took them from my shoe, grew the hodge podge of what was in there with them on agar, and isolated just the psilocybe, it would work? How would I do that or know what was what? I am no mycologist, but I use me brain.

If it's heavily contaminated there may not be any mushroom mycelium to transfer. You may also wind up transferring something that looks like mushroom mycelium but is not. Really you'd just have to use your best judgement and transfer what you think it mushroom mycelium and grow it out some before you'll for sure what it is.

I know it is crazy, but I am curious on how to transport over long distances.

Transport what? Cultures I don't think you'd have any problem transporting if you wrap the plates in parafilm.

I know I am a little crazy. I guess I am getting at a round about way of legality issues involving transportation without detection ahem...

I doubt they will lock you up and throw away the key if they catch you with a few spores or culture slants

Well spores of all mushroom are perfectly legal, at least in most states in the US anyway. I'd consider a spore print safer to transport in that respect than a culture.
