Comedy movies with sad, serious themes

Take these following two for example. (I've seen this in many others though)

They both appear to be comedies from the trailers, but when you actually watch them, they have serious dark themes that are so boringly serious it's not funny. It tries to genuinely make you feel for the characters like in a serious drama all while trying to be a normal comedy movie at the same time. In the end, it's just a mediocre drama with about 2 laughs per hour.
So, what's up with these, huh?

"Funny People," that movie with adam sandler and seth rogan about standup is the exact meaning of tragic comedy.
Literally: Half the movie is comedy (good) the other half is depressing cancer shit
good movie, but its a damn roller coaster

I hate it when comedies aren't funny. A while ago I watched some movie with Sean Penn pretending to be a clergyman, I gave up after not laughing once in the first hour.

Grrr I hate this too. You're all set to watch a funny from the comedy section to have some laughs and then about half-way though the movie you've forgotten that it's even supposed to be a comedy because you still haven't found the funny bits yet.
It's like nowadays if a serious drama is about a weird situation or has some quirky characters then it's suddenly a comedy. Like that Robin Williams one, don't remember what it was called but damn it was so depressing. It was about his confused kid who killed himself jacking off while strangling himself. I suppose some might find some humour in it but even if you like sick humour, it's not even that kind of humour. It's just a story about a father's grief. Yet it came under comedy and was described as a comedy.
That's just one example because it's the most recent, but there have been many more films that have been labelled as comedies that when we came to watch them they were very obviously not. Some might have been good films in their own right but not what we were looking for.

Worlds best dad?
Uhhh.. I don't think that was supposed to be a comedy at all? I watched it on netflix a while back and I didn't go into it expecting a comedy .
As for OP I got nothing, I only really devote my time to watch movies that I know are REALLY good. There's just so many good movies I haven't seen yet.

Looks like a Pineapple Express clone but it just fucking sucked. So did Pineapple Express but at least it didn't suck as badly as Leaves of Grass.

idk about that man, pineapple express is one of the few stoner flicks that actually filled most of my personal criteria. most stoner flicks suck. so yeah it may not have been the best movie ever, it's better than any in it's class.

Pineapple Express was fucking stupid on every level.
I should also note that I pretty much hate comedies in general and only watch them when forced.

Never used Netflix before, wouldn't know about that.
I can't remember what movie review website I read it off of (wasn't IMDB but it was one of the popular ones), whoever described it as a "ground breaking comedy" had to be trolling.
