shiitake blistering
    #18748154 - 08/23/13 05:15 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I have been experimenting with sawdust texture and have noticed that blistering seems to be related to the coarseness of the sawdust.

Blistering becomes more intense as the sawdust texture becomes more course.  This appears to increase the colonization speed and the initial white brightness of the mycelium run.  The experiment was made using the same strain and only varying the sawdust texture.

I do not know is bumps are desirable in terms of yields yet, but aeration is increased on the block surface inside the bags causing the bags to become tighter and stretched.

Has anyone else made this observation.

This is very strain dependent; the blistering.  So this association with coarse sawdust to blistering may only be present in your strain. Either way, for your situation fruit out both and see which one gives the best results.

I am using the same cs strain.  The blistering in this case appears completely substrate dependent.

I am looking for other people who have experimentally observed this phenomena with strains they have grown.  Wood chips vs no wood chips type of comparison using the same strain

I know some strains blister more than others if different strains are compared using the same substrate.
