http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2013/08/05/sopa-died-in-2012-but-obama-administration-wants-to-revive-part-of-it/
"Last week, the Department of Commerce’s Internet Policy Task Force released a report on digital copyright policy that endorsed one piece of the controversial proposal: making the streaming of copyrighted works a felony."
The petition is only there to get a reply from the government, they don't exactly care about the people's will about something that can't even be held over a politicians head.
If people keep a handle on their work, people can't just hop on Google and download their work like they did with mega upload. Youtube has a Creative Commons if people want to share their work. If streaming copyrighted work does become illegal, Youtube might be the biggest criminal of them all, because every time you click on a youtube link you're downloading someones copyrighted work to your computer, whether you think it's legal or not. Essentially by agreeing to youtube's term's they are letting people download the content to their computer and they'll get money for advertising. But you can still keep that downloaded content without having to use youtube again.

They're trying to put a price tag on art(opinions).
Like I said before, it's not that hard to keep your music under wraps. In this day and age, digital downloads from third parties is the way to go. Why spend money on your cd to be packaged and never see the money if it get's a price cut or doesn't sell? Artist make the money from touring and doing concerts. Virtually every rap artist releases a hot mixtape at least once a year. For other genre's that's like a single basically.
Do we really need to pay 1.29 for one song, because it's not played on the radio everyday? If they are losing money, why can't they compete? Sound cloud, bandcamp etc. does the same services they do, for free.
I don't like seeing normal people try to make a living/hobby off of someone else's work honestly, but sometimes people want to watch reviews, alternate trailers or parodies of the game. I sat down and watched like 20 hours of a play through a game. If I had never played the game(10 years ago) I would have just not watched it.
Like I said I'm not the type of guy that doesn't pay for something if I have the money. I don't use torrents because I don't want a list like that popping up somewhere. If a peice of work is on the market for more then 10, 15 years I think it should be fair game. By that time, if people want it, technology has advanced enough to sell them an alternative.

the problem with all these claims is that they seem to not be supported because there's no link to a bill and in most cases where there is one, the bill doesnt state what the fear mongers want you to believe

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act
Provisions include the requesting of court orders to bar advertising networks and payment facilities from conducting business with infringing websites, and search engines from linking to the websites and court orders requiring Internet service providers to block access to the websites. The law would expand existing criminal laws to include unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content, imposing a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
Opponents state the proposed legislation threatens free speech and innovation, and enables law enforcement to block access to entire internet domains due to infringing content posted on a single blog or webpage.
