does blueing come off over time?
    #18746797 - 08/23/13 11:11 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Had a cake that went thru 2 flushes. It appeared to be bruised, no biggie. Was blue definatly looked like bruising. When I took a good look at my cakes last night it looked like it was coming off. I took a small scraper and barely scrapedit and it came off very easily. Was like a wet piece of paper stuck to it, best way to describe it. So I rinsed it off for a dunk and all of it washed off rather easy. Didn't leave any marks behind. Does bruising do this over time? I'm saying a good two weeks after bruising is when I scraped it off. Also the cake had a couple soft spots. When I rubbed it with my finger lightly, kinda made a rut in the cake.  Anyone had experience with this?. I crumbled the cake and burried it outside. Just wondering if I really needed to. Was just scared it was mold.    And of course I took no pictures of it last night but might have one of the spot a week ago or something. Let me know if you have any opinions.

The cake was probably ok. Hard to say without pics. Too late now though. You will probably get a few fruits off of it outside if you keep it damp

If the first 2 flushes were plentiful, your cake was prob spent and starting to mold and rot = soft spots

The difference in appearance between bruising and mold should be apparent. Here's a good thread with a lot of pictures to use as a reference http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17231150/page/1

Bruising will go away over time if the substrate is not dehydrated. It can also rub off, particularly when during a procedure that damages the mycelium or mushroom tissue.

Probly did react to fast and put it outside but was one of five cakes so no biggie. Guess it could be spent, but the first cake I birthed is on its 4 th flush right now. So does mold wash off easily like I explained? Would think it would be more then skin deep. When I crumbled it it was white and consistent all through the cake. Would mold have been on the inside to?

Mold is often white like mushroom mycelium. The spores are usually a different color and powdery, they form mostly on the surface and can wash or be brushed off to some extent.
