What makes a flowhood go bad?

I've had my flowhood for under a year now. My first innoculations from 5 syringes of 6 jars of grain each were all 100% clean. Same went for my following lot of g2g's. this was around October of last year. I didn't start again until the following April and have run into quite a few issues since. The thing is though, I've had some runs of innoculations and g2gs that were 100 percent clean. Some a certain percent clean and certain percent contam. When having a run of g2g time to time that's 100% clean it leads me to believe my flowhood must be fine and the source of contam must be in spawn where it's indistinguishable to the naked eye. But then again some of those seem to come out clean. However, I just received a new batch of ms syringes from the same reputable vendor I used last time, and its been a week, and today I just noticed about 5 jars from 3 of the different strains with cobweb. Most still nothing at all. I'm really worried maybe something went wrong with my flowhood, I could understand leaving it in a damp place like a basement where it might develop mold. Mine is in a detached garage which is used for nothing but my sterile work. I have a prefilter always, and run my hood a good two hours before starting any work. Aren't these filters supposed to last years? I gather these syringes could be bad? I was going to try a dot of each on agar, but I gather I still wouldn't know yet if its my flowhood or the spores. Just wondering if anyone's had a flowhood go bad and what the cause might of been for you

Still curious if anyone has had a filter go bad. I had a good run with a lot of agar but some contams. I'm considering building a little containment area, like a box around the top and sides of hood no no air can flow in from the top. I feel like I've seen these before especially in lab flow benches. What kind of material would be best would you say to use? Plexiglass?

You can try testing the flowhood with a clean agar plate, see if it contaminates. Just an open dish for some time.

I have my flow hood in my dirty open air garage so I left the wood I enclosed the hepa and blower in about a foot and a half longer on all sides so I'd have a little workspace. It works fine, I dont even clean the dirty wood and I do agar work in it every week.

I think this might be my issue Devi. Thanks. My flowhood is in an unattached older garage. I think I need to enclose some workspace. Did you ever work in front of it before altering it?

I did this with 3 agar plates. One of the three contamed. Other two were clean.
