Kick boxing, TKD, and wrestling.

Not trained enough to enter any contests, but well enough for real life (which generally doesn't involve fight sequences with black belts thankfully)

*edit: actually on that note the last fight I was in was with a black belt, which is why it was the last fight I've been in
:loldongs:

Not usual that two martial artists go at it other than sparring or competing haha.

What caused the fight?

We were drunk the night before and sparred, I beat him. Next day he came up when I was really smashed and went full contact, ended up losing some teeth, fucked up my nose and a few other things. Cause was his dented pride

Didn't go for round 3, there was too much drama already. Have been a bit more careful after that day, it really sucks when you lose a bodypart (teeth)

Man, smart call on no round 3. A man's ego is one of the first things that'll get him hurt or make him hurt another. Hate to hear that happened, dude. I have frequent nightmares about me getting my teeth busted out... hopefully not some insightful premonition.

started with taekwondo (brown w/stripe) as a youngin which I had to unlearn most of...
I've trained most extensively in wing chun gong fu/trapping hands, Chin Na/Tai Chi Chuan, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and some Krav Maga. ~15 years
Haven't really trained or sparred in several years though, so I'm pretty rusty. My current work schedule kind of makes it real difficult to go to a dojo.
I'd really like to get back into it at some point though. There's a Krav Maga dojo a block away from me and a BJJ place as well.

I remember doing some chin na in Kung Fu. Very interesting stuff. Sounds like you've trained some very effective styles. And as always, I'm jealous that I'm not near a Wing Chun school.

For a second there, I thought that maybe Mike Tyson had an account here. I tend to get my lip busted open more than I'd like. And my allergies make it look like I'm crying every time I take a shot to the nose, so it's a very unpleasant place for me to get hit.

I've trained in Aikido for about 11 years. It's pretty cool stuff. It's what Steven Seagall does in his movies (although I'm not particularly a fan). It's a pretty big part of my life lately. Been training 4 days a week.

Hell yeah! And I like Seagals fight choreography, but I think he's a horrible example of an Aikidoka I'm a 4th Kyu in Ki Aikido. I've been doing it for about a year or so. Definitely one of my favorite arts; although I question some of the approaches, I love the philosophical aspects and it can be an extremely deadly art when trained appropriately but I think so many have strayed from the path that O'sensei set. What style do you do?

I train in Aikikai style. My current sensei is an old ass Vietnamese dude who is not only a master of Aikido, but also Judo, Taekwondo, and Shaolin Kung Fu. I've trained in a couple other dojos as well as having done some training and tested for my black belt in Japan. There are many different offshoots, all of them claiming to be the "true" way. I prefer to train in as many as I can. Be careful about making too many judgements of styles. There is some truth in all of them. Many people in Aikikai are as critical of the Ki Society as Ki Society people are of other styles. If you have the opportunity, you should train with whoever you can. There's something to be gained by all of them.

Hell motherfucking yes. That is the Bruce Lee philosophy essentially. Take what is most useful or effective out of every style, never limit yourself to one way.. develop your own style out of endless learning.

I'm an aspiring martial artist.  If I manage to lose enough weight I intend to enroll in martial arts training, I already picked a dojo.

Now to lose several buckets of flubber though.

You should PM the user "sunshine". I think he's been the longest active professional martial artist on this message board for the last 9 years. Kinda like Enlil being the lawyer, da2ra being the cop, thoughts being a pedo etc.

my advice to you is to get in there and start doing it, dont wait to loose
weight because this is your health at stake, a good instructor will work with
you on the basics and you'll begin to lose the weight from the added activity

being out of work my weight got up to 200lbs, I'm back to 170 now, 15-29 more
and I'm back into fighting trim, the guatamalan soccer player I work with is
shocked that at nearly double his age I still have incredibly fast reflexes
and my flexibility is well beyond his

in the dojo and at home, I dont know anyone that gets into martial arts that
isnt so excited that they show everything they've learned to most of the
people they know and if wiccan shows half the enthusiasm with martial arts as
he does most of his other passions then he'll be practicing most of the day

I'd still be careful. He's trained with the Shaolin. He can run across walls and perch himself on the ceiling above you. Last I heard his shadow didn't exist anymore since his katana is so sharp it bends light.
