Orange film around holes in brf cake jars

Hey everyone, I'm a first timer and used verm and brf to make my cakes. I used the bulk tek thread for n00bs as my guide. I did not use dry verm layer and put masking tape over the holes.
I inoculated the cakes around 5 days ago and have so far not seen much growth. However, I noticed that there is an orange film around the holes, underneath the masking tape, on a good 2/3 of my jars. My questions are, has anyone seen something like this? and should I toss those jars?
Thanks, tried to search the site, but came up empty

I suppose that's a possibility, but it appears to be kind of liquid. If that's the case is there anything to do but trash them?

But OP wasn't following the PF Tek:

I'm confused, OP -- are you saying you're using masking tape as a filter? Because that won't work.
Do you have a link to the tek you're using?

Huh. I don't understand. Masking tape shouldn't work as a filter -- it's not porous. Micropore tape could work, but not masking tape.
As for your original question, it does sound like it probably is rust. The liquid is probably water condensing on the underside of the lid. If you can post pictures we might be able to get a better idea.
For your next grow I'd suggest you try a tek that's newer and/or more widely proven. There are a few things I find troubling in the one you linked to.

all of my 30 jars right now have that around all 4 holes. but they are colonizing just fine and I have a few that are almost done and about to be birthed. but IMO its perfectly fine just leave them be man
