Oh Hi im Back after my recent frustration with spore syringes --> Jar ---> monotub Im Fed up not having the results i want, 100% no contamination in my tubs.
I just got back from the Asian Market Scored 7 25 Gram Packets of Agar for $1.39 each so 175 Grams for under $10 they also had potato starch was unsure if this would work for Potato dextrose so i didnt buy,
i know you can't sterilize plastic petris so do i buy pre-sterile ones and pour them up in the SAB? and if i was to do this would i mix my PDA with Boiling water so it sterilizes the agar? i dont have the money for glass petris at the moment
or should i start with something as easy as a 1/4 wide mouth jar mix my PDA up pour and pc for 30-35 mins
i still gotta make a trip to home depot to finish assembling my SAB i just want to be sure of things so i can finish my SAB and JUMP IN AGAR!!!

Boiling water will not sterilize your agar mixture! You will have to PC it for 20-30 mins at 15 psi to achieve that. And yes pour into Petri dish in a SAB while the agar is still hot but not burning your hand off. The jar should still be warm, if you wait too long you will have a big jar of solid PDA

Ya I don't pour my agar from a master jar. I did one time then realized these cool plastic containers I use are PC able. They are awesome I get 10 for one dollar at my local family owned dollar store. The agar doesn't boil over or nothing, for me at least I've heard of this happening for some people that pre pour their plates.

You can wipe with iso-alcohol or bleach/water, and then pour.
I'm going to do the same thing soon.

5 grams instant potato's "Betty Crocker Potato Buds" 9 grams of agar agar 7 grams of pure honey 1 gram of nutritional yeast mini flake 500 ml of purified water
Here is a recipe from an OG that I use. Yup they are completely PC able, and i dont have to wrap them with parafilm or glad wrap. What I do is throw them in a bigger tubberware container so I don't individually wrap each one with foil and so they are all not floating around in the pressure cooker. If you do find some make sure they are microwave/dishwasher safe, otherwise they might melt. I'm looking around to see if I can find the same ones I use with the same price. Found a few that are more then what I pay for but still comes with 10.
Only downside I found with these containers is they are not as wide as a normal Petri dish (less serface area) but they work and are cheap.

Ya you can definately innoc from wedges with these! I've found something similar to the ones I use but it says not recommended for microwave or dish washer. But everywhere else says the are microwave safe. Google Sure fresh mini storage containers and the cheapest place would be the dollar tree we site. These things are expensive on eBay.

I'd recommend pouring your own. RR's agar tutorial is completely perfect for this.
I also have a thread about agar going if you'd like to take a look or ask me any questions there
Potato starch works great.
10g agar-agar 10g potato starch 7g dextrose 500mL water Throw some brewers yeast in there, 1 gram, if you have any laying around.
Here is an amazing recipebook for agar courtesy of aloha medicinals. Good to see you again, my man.

That's awesome those are pc able. Do they show what they are composed of specifically. Did you just try this on a whim? As I know many plastics won't make it in a PC. I would love to find out where to find these. Pretty much a gold mine if I do. Thanks for the heads up and in advance on any more info!

@ FrankHorrigan ya I know most people would recommend pouring them, but i wasn't to happy trying to pour 10+ dishes in my little SAB(i believe its around a 22 quart tote) I Did a test one day and then never looked back. Just working with what i got. Big fan of your write ups btw!
@DeadPhan the packaging doesn't say what the are composed of, looks like very cheap packaging actually lol. One day just for shits and giggles i decided to wrap one up completely in foil to see if it would survive.. To my surprise it did. I prefer the rectangle ones myself. I did a quick search online for Alabamamushie but couldn't find the same brand, if I do find a source for the same price and same brand I will be sure to let you guys know.
