No...that's not the case.
You emplored a victorian mill as an example of why the past was shitter than the future. I found that a little bias as there are many pros to the past as well as cons. I was merely pointing this out. Just a balanced view on a point I felt you were a little vague on.

i didn't make a mistake, you just jumped on something i said without backing up your point.

Of course there are Pros to the past but they are far outweighed by the Cons, HENCE my initial point.

You are either confused or just an itchy troll.

So you don't think you were a little bias in your representation. ....troll? Don't flatter yourself.
My points was...not everything in the past sucked and is surpassed by modern day. You need proof to believe this.  I can offer "back up" if you wish. I didn't think you'd be so simple as to need it

There's only 44 wars going on in the world as we speak. It's a historical low for this planet. Shit is getting better.

The number of wars occurring at the moment is not a good indicator of our world's health.  It's one indicator of probably dozens.

what game are you trying to play here?

my point was that things are improving, valid.

You called bias because i didn't go through all history and point out times when things might have been preferable.

so it is you who is desperate for mountains of unnecessary proof.

never once did i say that all things are better now, go back and read my initial post, you will see your point is covered in it.

The world is getting better for who exactly?  We are polluting and destroying entire ecosystems at an alarming rate. Am I to understand that the world getting better really means....less war crime and violence to other humans?

There is alot of technology on the rise out there that are definitely promising. Technology that would make very very good use of ambient energy from the sun, such as solar paneling on all surfaces of a house, and the ability to share excess energy amongst neighbors. Kinetic sidewalks that generate energy by large numbers of people stepping on them, which would be awesomely useful in New York.

It's only a matter of time, there are alot of geniuses out there.

The world is better in some ways, worse in others. Etc etc.

But I blame most of the bad shit on 'Internet Brain Shrink.'

I betcha some people felt the same way about the printing press when it was first made. The printing press allowed for massive amounts of garbage to be made, when traditionally, garbage was hand made with care, each piece of trash being unique.

An old, old argument.
The printing press didn't literally shrink the decision making part of your brain.

Agreed but I can sympathize with the OP. in fact I think the problem is that others DON'T love this existence. They don't see the beauty in the diversity and self expression of nature. Rather they see things only in categories and like to box up as many categories inside each other as they can and take that with a sense of pride. I think everyone needs to read The Sneetches. The only thing "fucked up" about us is that we don't take advantage of the possibility for unlimited creative potential in the human race

When 9/11 happened, I was living in a squat in Portland and didn't even know for about 3 days. Was blissfully happy and introvertedly unaware. This ground breaking, world changing event. Probably I could have lived until now...know not knowing it happened and be none the more miserable.

So much of what we feel are these mental architectures or 'screens' we view the world through, etc etc.

Because life is merely a trial of what works best for the future. Whether it be chemical replication of  Protozoa through nitrogen amide chain reactions, or the quest for truth in religion, government, or education, THERE WILL BE MANY DEVASTATING UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES through events in time.

Pretty trippy when you apply the principle of natural selection to ideas and concepts like capitalism or all of the other isms. I suppose what works best will survive and mutate into something more effective in future.

I think maybe its more the lack of natural selection... we're in a society where when an institution is wrong, said institution will do everything in its power to keep those wrongs in practice for fear of the consequences.
Nobody in a position of power wants to admit they are wrong because they will, hopefully, be removed from that position.
Acceptance is the first step in reformation. If you don't correct ppl when they are wrong they will continue to be wrong.
