My first attempt at WBS tek

So this was my first time doing the WBS TEK.
With this brand new Mirro bought at Shopko for $67 on sale and now my very first PC. Been doing this for a while now and want to move on to more advanced and nutrtious substrates that require a PC.

I started out with this WBS. It was 8.99 for 20lbs at Menards.
It did not notice any peanuts at all in the mix. It did have black sunflower seeds but they all floated off in the rinse. It does have cracked corn in it but from all the reading I did before hand I came to the conclusion that it's fine as long as you don't let it get too hydrated! After multiple rinses I add my secret ingredient! Well not too much of a secret to people that read enough!
This stuff works GREAT! I put it in a old pepper grinder and grind it into a stainless steel 2.5 oz container. Works great on my scale for these 12 quart jars i did 40 grams to the 2 pots for soaking...also picked up this 22 cubic yarder on sale today for $25 via seasonal nursery near by...SCORE!

Anyways, i digress. So here are the two pots of 17 hours soaked, slightly fermented WBS. I choose to do a longe soak and a shorter simmer due to the nature of corn and if you rehydrate it too much you will end up with corn paste....sucky...and sticky. So I set my stove up. I found 4 works the best on my stove. Keeps it right at the point of wanting to boil but just not quite.

Here's the 8 quarts of WBS in the making!

At this point there are a few split seeds "exploded kernels" but not a ton this was done about 20 minutes after the first steam. The corn was kinda soft but far from soggy.

This is where i used flour sifters to rinse off any gel like substance that had formed which there was some of. I used cold water being that the seeds hold a lot of temperature. I did not want them to over cook themselves with there internal temperature. So i used cold water, rinsed, and poured them onto multiple layers of paper towel and hand dried then left to dry a bit.

Then into the PC! Then into my signiture jars!
and thats it i inoculated and now are consolidating. Will follow up with pics!

Yes you are correct on the grain thing. How far do you let your grains consolidate before shaking. I'm hearing 50% 30%? Cause im just starting to see growth.

You shake after you inoculate then get to around 30% and shake again. After your jars are at 100% they're ready to be used.

Consolidation is the week of extra time that occurs after full colonization (usually just for cakes). However theres really no need to consolidate when spawning to bulk. Shake around 20-30%.
