Personal Sabotage
    #18735084 - 08/20/13 11:30 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Personal sabotage, the slighting of one’s own self, is a common occurrence during my course of action in life, for when I am living a well life I will conversely proceed to undermine myself by adopting bad habits, thus personally sabotaging my stability in life and general wellness. The true question is why do I sabotage myself? What possesses a man to voluntarily carry out his life with a dash of idiocy? Why does a student skip class, why does a human being parachute from a plane, and why do we risk our well-being in general?

When considering this issue I compared it to humanity's interest in high risk action sports, stunts, or challenges – such as parachuting. When a man parachutes he knowingly partakes in an activity which could result in serious consequences such as death. I surmise that taking a risk resembles the very principles of Russian Roulette – chance verses glory. If a student skips class he may fail a test, but what if he skips and passes with an A? What if a worker smokes pot and risks his job? And what if not one person ever finds out that he lives gloriously with his own placebo like “advantage” of a mindset that he pretentiously and "secretly" gloats in, coyly trying to undermine societies rules while wearing a wry smile of satisfaction.

What rationale convinced you to take a risk? Was it laziness, excitement, or indifference? What compelled you to disrupt your own general wellness?

In most of my experiences I can think of, it was because I felt I would find some sort of personal fulfillment in my life from the experience, and the other main reason behind why I set myself back in back in life was from simply "going with the flow" or doing what my peers were doing. Now obviously there were factors in every situation that led to a lack of logic or foresight. Although, I don't mind setting myself back, time and time again, because it makes me reflect on my motives and mindset. Without reflection, its easy to steer down a negative or destructive path I have found.
