It looks like Weilii season is coming up and just wanted all the Georgia Shroomers to know. Maybe we can post some tips for the any Weilii hunters.

The season that Psilocybe weilii grows. It's from late August through early December(somewhere around there).I found my last weilii around December 3rd last year.

Can you post some good pictures too? I have heard that if you find some Psathyrella velutina that the Weilii should be around as well. I have been finding gobbs of the Psath. vel and am hoping for a Weilii find.

Sorry girly, no dice on the weilii in Alaska . As far as we know they only grow in Georgia(North of Macon) and extreme southeastern Tennessee. They're a newly discovered species, so their range is still being discovered but Alaska is several thousand miles from their reported range and I'm sure the climates are signifigantly different.
If you still want to look at pictures, do a search for them. LizardKing has posted hundreds of fantastic pictures of this species.

Here?s some crappy pictures of weilii that I picked last year:
Bluing stem(and a bit of a bluing margin on the left):
Keep in mind that these weilii were in the sun for a few days and their typical color has faded. They?re normaly dark brown with waxy caps.

Did someone say pictures? Keep in mind I have nearly 1500 pictures of this species of Psilocybe, I can?t be picky when pulling from the archive or I spend hours re-living every picture and get too sidetracked and can?t shoose which ones I like best. So I just point and click Enjoy, and good luck hunters. I?ve only found 4 weilii in the past week due to this dry spell. Hopefully things pick up and we get some rain before the temps drop too much.

WOh I'm not familar with the weilii.. but I am in north east ga.. I mean extreme north like 20 miles south of tn line.. and 30 west of ga alabama line around that very roughly.. + or - 10 miles or so.. but I have seen that mushroom I belive often around fall ALOT in the woods.. I mean I almost jumped when I saw that one pic by lizard man in, the one in the woods 5th one from the bottom.. they look sooooooooo familar.. are their many species that look like weilii to avoid like the plague? What are its close look alikes? I will look for more info, just some knowledge from the weilii beast's would be a good supplement.. finally a shroom I can possiblly find without risking redneck shotgun/cop calls.. (although I havn't went hunting ever I am just afraid to attempt it in my area, doubtful cubies are even here..) thank you guys..

>are their many species that look like weilii
Yes! Tons of mushrooms *look* like weilii, but if you know some tools of identifcation they're really unmistakeable.
Here's a small write up on weilii's I sent to a user last season:
They typically fruit a few days after a good rain from May though the end of October, but more so in the fall.
The best place to look for weiliis is in neighborhoods that were built within the past 6-8 years that have bermuda grass. They like to hang out in the shadows in lawns... next to electrical boxes, on the edge of woods, next to plants and shrubs. You'll also find them growing in pine straw and on red clay, but it's just easier to spot them on lawns.
As far as description goes, they're dark brown with a waxy cap. They often have a black nipple or umbo at the center of the cap. After they have been out in the sun for a while the caps fade to a whitish color and get a metallic sheen to them if you spot them in the sun. The stems are variable, they range from light brown, to white, to a yellowish color. Another note about the stems, they're rooted deeply in the ground, they hold on like there's no tomorrow if you try to pull them out(especially if the ground is dry). The gills are whitish when the mushroom is young, but they become grey-brown with age. These mushrooms always drop a purple-brown spore print. Always take a spore print.
The easiest way to identify a mushroom that you think might be a weilii, other than by smell, is to lightly pinch the stem close to the cap and let it sit for about 5-15 minutes. You will see a blue-green briuse where you pinched it... that bruising indicates the presense of psilocybin. Don't go by the brusing reaction alone though, a lot of mushrooms briuse blue that aren't active.
The last note is potency. They are EXTREMELY potent, they rank right up next to Azures and Cyans. Typically 3 mushrooms with 1 inch(or 2 with 2 inch caps, 1 with a 3 inch cap) in diameter caps is enough for a very nice level 3 trip. Anything over that is just crazy. I'm not sure about dosage per gram as far as dry weight goes... I'll see what I can find out though.

Oh... doo, those are crappy pictures for my standards of photography.
Here?s some of my favorite pictures I?ve taken of mushrooms(none of them are weilii though):
Alright... went a little crazy with the pictures, but there?s more where that came from
