An old RR quote about Trich...need some advise please
    #18739194 - 08/21/13 07:12 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Trichoderma spores are in the air, on the walls, the ceiling, the carpet, in your houseplants, on your person, your clothes, and in the soil around the building landscaping, and your neighbors landscaping, as well as local farms and gardens everywhere.  According to paul stamets, every square inch of soil in the world is infected with trichoderma, and I have no reason or evidence to doubt that.

You can bleach the carpet until the cows come home and you'll still get trich in your projects if you fail to use a glovebox or flowhood, and practice sterile procedures every step of the way.
RR

This is very disheartening. I dont have problems with my inoculations or colonizations...everything goes through fine without a hitch. But lately Ive been getting trich about halfway through my 2nd flush in every tub.

My grow room is a 5 ft x 10 ft closet with nothing in there except my tubs, a small hepa purifier, and some plastic milk crates. Ive doused the entire room, walls, and floor (ceramic tile) with a vinegar/bleach/water mix multiple times but I still get trich during my 2nd flush. I thoroughly clean my tubs before putting in my spawn/sub.

Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

Are you properly pasteurizing your substrate?

honey, i have better answers than that.

as said, its not a complex answer,
but it does need an experiment to prove it to the masses.

id like to avoid the usual rioting, and wait till i can edit / package, the findings in a coherent way.

as said, this is one of the topics of a upcoming thread.
interstingly, RR himself, came up with the link to the research paper.

for the moment,
ill suggest read up, and go with RR on this topic.
and keep an eye out in october.

expect trich and treats around halloween.

ill stop here,
and lets see what the other esteemed panelists have to say.
and frank.
he seems to know alot about trich.

Yes, it stays around 152-158 for 90 minutes. If I wasn't I don't think I'd make it to the 2nd flush.

 @ anne halonium

You crack me up!

chaotic646-

You mentioned spraying bleach/vinegar/water, having a HEPA filter running and how much you clean your tubs, but you left out the information that would most likely be the cause of the problem-

- Inoculation method
- Type of filtration used on jars or bags
- Grain spawn prep method & sterilization method/time
- Bulk sub prep and pastuerization method

That is just one of thousands of quotes from RR you posted. I'm sure you will also find quotes stating that if you have clean, fully colonized grain spawn and a properly pasteurized bulk substrate that you can spawn the grain to the bulk sub in open air. Inoculating a grain/pf jar or bag is where sterile technique is required.

Sorry, I typed that post a while ago and got sidetracked before submitting it.

Just because your grain jars fully colonized doesn't mean there weren't endospores that made it through the sterilization cycle and showed up later in your bulk sub.

ironically,
me and the maid essentially eliminated trich in the lab a few yrs ago.
and ,now were growing out RGS plates looking for some , for this upcoming tek.

its a strange world we live in.

thats all i had to add, carry on.

Anne you are constantly saying you are about to unleash all these great ideas and teks to the masses but I've yet to see anything. What are you waiting for? More to come! More to come! More to come! When is it coming? We're all anxiously waiting

If you indeed had a way to eliminate trich, you'd be a millionaire by patent implementation on commercial farms. And I'm quite sure you wouldn't be bothered to grace us with your presence.

I'm relatively certain you won't offer any ideas that don't pertain to sterile technique, good hygiene, ,sanitation, or some antifungal that has newly come on market.

We all really will take you a bit serious if you ever add anything of substance instead of continuing to promise "things to come in the new age......."

takes a big production value
im usually stoned, and behind schedule.
but, lets not thread crash.

trich is a serious issue.
it plagued me thru the 80s and 90s.
then we eliminated it.

it still plagues many others grows.
we think we know , how to diminish it greatly.
a half baked proposal, poorly edited, lacking pics,
would encourage rioting.

me and maid, actually spent all last year,
rebuilding lab. it took several months, to work out the bugs.

pulling all the new advanced teks together, has been a production.
lights , cams , grows, experiments, and supply,
really knifing into my club and vape time.

patience.

as for the trich thing?
were tacking that one on as an extra bonus tek.
and ,its a real thinker indeed.

in the meantime, scan my thousands of pics,
on many topics, across many forms and private sites.
ill suggest, ive made an opening contribution.
i know its not alot,
but, we have turned lophs into a seasonal pond crop,
and the infamous CNM grows........
the exotic 70 peeps had spores of, and only 2 grew any of merit.
violet tek , has 18k plus hits last time i looked.
its the primary tek, ive been using for almost 20 yrs.

id like to think im a noob with potential.

every good band , has a warm up act.

anyways,
trich, must be eradicated.
lets keep to topic.

most of my grow fight threads, are well known,
stop by, and lay heavy on the rep shrooms!

Anne your contributing nothing to help answer OP's question. And I've only seen you post the same 5-10 picture's throughout your latest appearance here on the forums.

Instead of babbling about how you and your 'maid' eradicated trich, why don't you Just tell Op how you managed to do it? I'm sure taking a few minutes to type up a short summary would help OP more than telling him nothing at all.

And why do you keep saying "maid". Seriously? Why don't you just say friend, or partner? Christ, step down from your high horse, I'm sure if you had a personal 'maid' to clean your 'lab' than you'd have a slightly larger rep than a shitty poet on a few mycology forums.

because i have a maid.
you should get one also.

the answer to trich, is not as quick,
as some of your retorts.

i was actually hoping to see what others thought about trich.
i seriously wanna know.

so, all my usual suspects,
what do YOU do about it?

quick answers are fine for now.

if ya want the simplistic annie on this,
clean your lab.

if ya want the annie advanced answer, lemme finish growing some,
so, i can have pics and explain better thru experiments.
THEN, you can riot.

so , please , lets see what others think.
anything that stops trich is good IMO.

because everyone seems to have it. but me.

same 5-10 pics?
lol.
you dont get out much do ya.

That was actually a decent post by Anne, until the absolute end. I was pleasantly surprised until the "everyone has it. But me."

i havent had it in years.
last time i saw it was 2004.

we left a tube in a cabinet,
and ,it had a dirty spot on it of agar.
wich had trich.

it was wiping out all the agar in the room.
me and maid, hunted the entire lab, with magnify glasses.
we found it, re bleached the whole lab, and it ceased.

ironically , we really didnt fully understand why.
as weve had clean labs before, and still saw it once in a while.

so for a long time, honestly, i just called it clean luck.
then one day, i saw something odd in the agars, and thought nothing of it,
later on, a week or so, i saw a thread on another forum,
that showed something similar.........hmm.
week after that, RR offered a link , to a research paper,
and it all clicked .

can i gurantee never see trich agian?
no.
can i offer a tek that really really limits or stops its damage?
yes........
naturally , there wil be riot before ya try it , as with all my teks.

but not today.
today, lets gather everyones take on trich eradication first.

Actually loled at that one. You really are a conceited piece of work Anne.

It sounds like you've got a fairly clean and organized setup OP. As others mentioned, you really need to take a look at your sterile procedure. As RR's wonderful quote explains, Trich spores can be found on almost any surface. The air is a sea of contams, and trich is but one of the many contaminates found there.

So first and foremost- remember everything you touch that has not been flame sterilized, is probably covered in trich. Wash your hands and then open the door to your grow room- well you probably have some trich on your hands now because you just touched the door knob.

As Anne said- short and simple, clean your lab. That is exactly what needs to be done if you wish to keep trich at bay. And not just once either, you'll have to get into a habit of regularly wiping down surfaces, door knobs ect, with rubbing alc or diluted bleach solution. I use 70% iso. You'll have to remmeber if you bring something into your room, you've probably brought contams with it, so you'll need to wipe it down before bringing it in.

I rarely enter my work room without taking a shower and putting on clean cloths. I wipe my hands down with iso after touching anything that has not been wiped down yet.

The trick to keeping trich at bay, is basically sterile procedure. If you work with properly sanitized and sterilized materials within a glovebox or SAB and practice common sense at all times (Such as cleaning hands before entering grow room ect) Than trich shouldn't really be an issue.
