LOGAN — Several people were arrested and charged by multiple local law enforcement agencies during the four-day festival that brought 5,000 visitors to the area for Rootwire Music Festival at Kaeppner's Woods last weekend.

A civil citation was issued against the liquor license of Logan City Limits LLC, where Rootwire is held, for having improper conduct for drug use.

According to Eric Wolf, the agent in charge of administration at the Ohio Investigative Unit, also commonly referred to a liquor control, investigators worked at the request of the Hocking County Sheriff's Office and were allegedly able to purchase hash oil and drug paraphernalia at one of the vendor sites located on the festival grounds.

"We recovered marijuana, hashish in both liquid and solid form and some cash from the vendor's operation," Wolf told The Logan Daily News.

The vendor who allegedly sold the drugs to undercover investigators was allegedly asked to leave the festival on Friday, Aug. 16.

On Saturday when festival organizer Ed Quatkemeyer realized the vendor was still there, he contacted property owner Bill Kaeppner, who in turn contacted the Hocking County Sheriff's Office to escort the vendor from the property.

What is "aggravated possession of drugs" ?

"• Even Johnson, 24, Howell, Mich., trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in hashish, aggravated possession of drugs schedule II."

Is 80 arrests a lot for a fest this size or is this expected ? It's 80 arrests to many, that's for sure.

Aggravated possession is a large amount of that drug usually possessed with intent to distribute.
That's what I'm concluding anyway... google itt

Actually Ohio is a bit weird with that. Possession of any schedule 1 or 2 substance with the exception of MJ, LSD, heroin, and coke it is labeled as agg. possession regardless of amount. Each of those listed has its own section and is "possession of xxx substance".

Almost all of the arrests were for marijuana which will more than likely just be a misdemeanor. If you exclude that there are very few felony arrests which isn't too bad for a fest this size. The fact they brought a dog into the fest is probably why so many MJ arrests.

I imagine Rootwire moves venues next year though.

I dodged a bullet on this one.  I heard so many horror stories, police brutality stories, unlawful search stories, and sketchy narc undercover stories.

This summer is kinda making me want to just give up on the festival thing.

I think there are 2 big issues that are killing festivals now.

One is the Camp Zoe seizure which makes anyone wanting to use their property for chill laid back festivals weary of leasing it out so festival organizers are having to book city/county/state owned land to host the festies which gives cops more leeway in shitty overabusive searches.

The other issue is that the newest generation of festival goers is too concerned with drug use and think that is what a festy is about. When you have a ton of custy kids that don't give a fuck coming to a festival just to score as many drugs as possible it attracts some sketchy dealers, scam artists, and fake/dangerous drugs. That in turn draws more attention from the cops. Need to get back to going ot festivals just to enjoy the festival, drugs should always be secondary.

I see festivals going the way of the massive raves. Eventually there will be so much negative press and police pressure that the major promoters start to crack down hardcore or just give up completely and the scene will fizzle out for a bit. The smaller local festivals will start to gain more traction and become popular again and hopefully revitalize the scene into what it should be.

This. Fucking this, exactly.

And I hate to say it, but I've noticed this becoming more and more of a problem since dubstep/EDM has come on the scene more. I can't recall the last fest I went to that I could actually enjoy the late night act.

Basically, you fucks already got your raves shut down because of being too open with drugs. Leave our festivals the fuck alone.

The EDM/dubstep crowd now isn't the same as the ravers of old. Raves in the 90s and very early 2000s were just as laid back and chill as the festivals in the early 2000s.

I think it is more the "Bro factor" than the actual music being played.

Really that's a pathetic turn up for all the people arrested. They could have got way more than that. I was at this fest and my dude was selling L by the sheet to people taking it home / selling it there. there were a looot of drug.

Half the weight of marijuana came from one person and it was edibles... meaning they probably weighed the actual food itself and counted it as marijuana...

also I was under the impression that aggravated possession meant they had prior drug convictions but I don't know exactly. Marijuana possession is a minor misdemeanor in Ohio and only a citation plus you lose your license for a little while. Doesn't hold criminal record.

Nope agg possession in Ohio is possession of anything I didn't list above.

MJ is a misdemeanor up to 200g in ohio. Over 200g is a felony. Selling is usually a felony.

Also, 100 grams or less of pot is decriminalized, so it's pretty much just a fine and no record.
