I've heard a lot of similar comments about how things had to come together "just right" for life to exist and what a miracle it is because if it had just "1% more" of this or that, humans never could've survived and this might be some kind of "proof" of a creator.  The big problem with this to me is just because things had to line up perfectly to exist as they are right now, who is to say that had they not worked out so "perfectly" to sustain human life, that there wouldn't have been some other life that existed.

Like this "inch closer or further away shit", which is BS as previously stated, but who is to say that evolution wouldn't have favored life that could handle being a bit hotter anyway.  It's like people think shit is "perfect" right now just because WE exist and if it had been a little different and humans didn't exist it would be some huge tragedy if there was a different dominating species on this planet or another one.

I get the basic idea of the argument but its still weird.

Here's a good example of what you were saying, and it's already on our planet.

Hydrothermal vents: Underwater volcanic vents. Temperatures 200+ degrees fahrenheit. And TONS of life surrounds these things. It's quite impressive what evolution can do.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7b/Estimated_extent_of_the_Solar_Systems_habitable_zone.png

The dark green band indicates the comfortable habitable zone around our sun: we could be anywhere within this zone which spans about 1/4 AU or in other words, our orbit can change approximately 18 million kilometers in either direction and we would still be in the habitable zone of our sun.

Yeah Sphogle I am now seeing the big holes in the logic especially what I read about the various distances we are from the sun throughout the course of a year.At least I know now that this inch away or closer is just another way for religious people to assure themselves in something that can't prove.I am religious too but I want to learn more about how the universe works unbiased,I don't need a stupid myth to maintain my faith

I don't care if I'm an inch closer to the sun. I do what I want
