well water causing metabolites?
    #18738419 - 08/21/13 04:20 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Hey just had a question I couldn't find an awnser to.  Is it possible that treated well water could cause mycelium to stress out and for excessive metabolites?

I ha e extremely soft water that is from the well which gets treated with water softener.  You know the big bags of salt rock.  I was wondering if it was possible that this could harm mycelium or at least stress it out.

I do have untreated water available from the same well that bypasses the softener system.  But its all rusty looking to the point if I let my kid play in the sprinkler his shirt turns orange lol.

Would I be better off just buying spring water and using that for my misting needs?

I just saw a post today where RR explained that using softened water will nuke your grow; salt is really, really bad for mycelium.

EDIT: And here's that RR post.

I'm guessing your referring to reverse osmosis softened water. I have never used RO water for a grow but have been using plain old well water for some time now about 2 years and it hasn't let me down.
I was also under the impression that the salt in an RO system didn't end up in the final product. Carwashes use nothing but RO water for spot free and I would hate to think that salt is being deposited on my car when I wash that would cause a lot of cancer rust.
Anyways sorry for getting of topic you should be allright with regular tap or well water but don't know if the rust in the water would hurt.
