Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years in Wikileaks case
    #18738356 - 08/21/13 04:06 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Wow..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23784288

I knew he was never going to walk away from the 'crimes' against him, but 35 years is unbelievable! Murderers, rapists and sex offenders are just a few of the criminals out there that are handed down sentences far less than what Bradley Manning has been given, and for what? Showing the transparency of the american government and the actions that it commits.

I'm sorry but reading stories like this just makes me both terribly angry and sad at the same time. In my eyes, someone like Bradley Manning should be treated not like a criminal, but like a hero!

Julian Assange seems pretty upbeat about the whole thing:

I guess he'll learn a whole new meaning to the term whistle blower in prison.

I heard he was really probably only going to have to serve about 7 years.

Still pretty fucked up though.

I'm not terribly surprised considering what he was convicted of. With all the charges, 35 years is actually pretty good for him. Good thing for him he didn't get aiding the enemy too. Still a fuck ton though.

New York Post was saying he was mentally ill cause he was sending pictures of himself dress like a female like a girl, like really New York Post, you've never had any experience with homosexuals? If anything they'd wouldn't have anything but experience with homosexuals considering the audience.

It's not. Chelsea Manning's struggle with her gender is well documented and I doubt she will receive any special treatment for it in military prison. She is being held in the men's section regardless.

I'm amazed by the news, all the same, and by her relentless bravery. Her choices are not being motivated by self-interest. She could have had her sentence drastically shortened if she had pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against Julian Assange, but she and her values are made of much stronger stuff. I have my own reasons for being inspired but IMHO she is a champion of our generation and of all Americans.

Testify against Assange for what?  And who elected him to decide what is and is not acceptable state secrecy.  The idiot released 700,000 documents.  Do you think he reviewed them?

I don't give two shits about the criminal's gender issues.

I don't give two shits about Trayvon Martin. If people aren't going to protest this fine, protest Trayvon Martin. I guarantee you no one is protesting shit.

People are lucky there was a trial for Zimmerman. Fuck... you in the middle east, some American blows your face off right in the streets in front of a bunch of kids. Want justice? Good luck with that

zig, there is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said but I'll sum it up anyway: war crimes committed by American troops are still war crimes. The people deserve to know and the perpetrators deserve to be held to the same degree of scrutiny and accountability that has been reserved for Manning. The military's first responsibility is to the American people.

You are not expected to give any number of shits, I know better than that.

No. Somebody who uses sloppy English would have used those pronouns, and a true moonbat would have used goofy made-up pronouns like "zhe" or "hir".

Why Chelsea? That has to be the worst name for a transvestite/drag queen/transsexual or whatever the proper nomenclature is.
Should have went with something with more pizazz.

Her gender concerns are on the record as having been present since before she joined the military. She just wants to live as much of her life as she has left to her.

I'm not terribly surprised considering what he was convicted of. With all the charges, 35 years is actually pretty good for him. Good thing for him he didn't get aiding the enemy too. Still a fuck ton though.

If you think the US hasn't been committing mad war crimes then you're in denial. Even without the leaks there are constantly reports of innocent civilians being killed. The war on terror is worse than the war on drugs.

If you think Manning read all 700,000 files then I'd suggest you're in denial.

If you think all 700+k files were about American War Crimes, or that War Crimes are not prosecuted,
or that there's a such thing as a 'clean war' to begin with ... or that our enemies are better...etc etc.

Manning / Snowden are not legally allowed to decide these things.

Damn thats longer than most killers and rapists get. fucking whack.

I can't understand why people focus on the bad stuff America does.
You don' have to ignore it, but read about the HORRIBLE shit our enemies are does and tell you support someone leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to them.

China and Russia are supporting Syria gassing fucking children.

And Russia and China support this shit and are working to stop investigation. Where's the outrage for that??

I've been outraged about Syria for years. America should be doing more to stop it, but Russia+China love them.

Don't worry, we've got our own militarized Arab hellscape to compete-- Egypt.

Doing the whistleblower thing and reporting something illegal the government is doing is one thing, but an indiscriminate leak of so many documents is another. If a government is not following its own laws then there should be no protection of secrecy for those activities.

Russia loves the autocratic Syrian regime... you brought Syria into this conversation, now keep up.

If you want to play moral relativism it's very hard to make the case that we've got no blood on our hands after the enormous massacre that just occurred in Egypt.

blah blah blah, keep spinning.

Some people are too busy trying to make themselves appear intelligent, online!, to have any god damn common sense about these things.

Bradley Manning leaked shit loads of documents, Snowden, the same.
China and Russia are shitfuckers who deserve the worst. And the US is the only remaining super power to do it.

Being henpecked by deskchair know-it-alls online nonwithstanding.

China and Russia aren't our enemies?

Well they own over a trillion dollars with of our debt and are our 2nd biggest trading partner.  That doesn't sound like a good way to deal with an enemy.  If you look at the past 50 years, the US has exported more death and misery than any of those other countries.  Have you ever met anyone that fought in Vietnam?  What the US Army did there was evil.  Keep believing whatever you want to though...

I think he deserves it. I think its every Americans duty to honor our country, which is the best in the world IMO, and protect it. You can't be leaking classified information to the enemies..he was a trader. He'll do less than 10 years once its all said and done with parole. I think that's a fair sentence.

 that's democracy for you. Kill some kids in van from a helicopter "they are unloading weapons and this guy on the ground is picking up a weapon" no big deal.

Report it though..... :awewtf:

:picard: Both kids survived.

yeah, in whatever the fuck Afghanistan calls a foster home. Must be nice at the age of before 10 or whatever to see your dad and his friend massacred with bullets ripping through them hiding behind a wall, and ripping through the windshield of a van, etc.

They must have a lot left over to look forward to

I guess per usual they have Jihad to look forward to.

Shit, accidents happen in war.
Afraid for your child's life?
Don't be the hero rescuing a shot man, surrounded by dead men, obvious something just happened, in a war zone with your kids in the god damn van!
An accident. Unlike the gassing of men, women and children that China and Russia are blocking the UN from even investigating. Not two kids that got hurt, (only) and their dad died. But foaming, twitching, nerve damaged zombie kids dieing in full view.

That shit made my stomach sour.
And still, people bitch and moan about america to look like mr cool rebel#1.
