Gonna get total hate for this but here goes.... i played half life 2 and didn't get what all the hype was about. Nothing about it really stood out to me. I wish i enjoyed it as much as you guys do but idk i just feel like maybe i played post-zombie-ish apocolypse 2 and the titles got mixed up.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
I think that means you just don't enjoy FPS and would rather play an RPG with FPS elements (like Fallout).
Let me guess, you are not one who cares for COD?
Morrowind, Skyim, Fallout NV and Borderlands 1 where the only of those I have beat and enjoyed. I really should play F.O. 3 again, lost all my saves with comptuer issues in the past and gave up.
I did stop playing CoD after MW2. Then they just kind of got sucky. What was it, the first black ops where you get get past the first mission with out even using a weapon Bad Company 2 was great and I just got Battlefield 3, which is fun. Haven't really played the single player side of it yet.
Lets see, I bet Wolfenstein 3d was the first game I installed on my first computer. A blazing fast 286 running at 12 mhz with a whopping big 40 MB hard drive in it.
So to answer your question, no not really. I just like a well made games, that is worth my time. I might even have to install the original Half Life again. Doom 3

Nice, I'll take you on MW1
Never got to play the CoD's prior to that online.

Technically no whith it's radient(?) quest system. Main quest and guilds man. I did beat Morrowind though, thoroughly. Didn't even know what I was supposed to be doing and was master of every guild, stormed across the lands(both expansion), then thought what the fuck. Oh wait, what was that guy at the begenning... something about blades.

DOOM 3? Poorly made?
Please.
What about it was poor?
Great and original level layouts, cool/interesting setting, great redo of the original DOOM idea, awesome weapons, unique enemies, horror, great graphics, secrets, audio...
Need I go on?
Seriously, name one negative thing about it.

It was buggy as all hell when released, also, Unreal had perfected the online mode by D3's release.
It got much better though.

That's where I got that idea. I'm just a die hard DOOM fan and thought u were insinuating DOOM 3 was not well made. We can have different opinions on games and still be friends. Adds spice to the conversation.
And as to TJ&E.....
Ba da ba bum bum, ba da bu dum, bu dum*click*, bu dum*click*.....
P.S. Sorry about the thread jacking Synthe....

Yeah, I found it boring too.
Wolfenstein was groundbreaking. Doom 1 and 2 were as well. Quake 2 was well designed and really utilized 3D cards for the first time.
Doom 3 was just another death match fest. It was made by Id, which was a good thing.
The only thing it did that was add weight to the characters. They seemed to be heavy. Before then, characters jumped like moon men. These ones felt real. And the graphics were amazing for the time.
I really can't think of anything D3 did that changed the genre. It was simply a good sequel. It was the first Id game in years that didn't change the genre for the better. By then, the Unreal games were doing as well as Doom.

To each their own I guess. I don't put "groundbreaking" on my "requirements for a good game" list. Popularity either. It was an adaptation of like my favorite game when I was a kid, so unless they botched it completely they probably would have won with me.
EDIT: DOOM was my second favorite game.... Right after ToeJam & Earl.

When we are talking about Half Life, I think it is important to take groundbreaking into account.
D3 was a solid game... it just didn't bring anything new enough to shift the paradigm.

Valve is like Rockstar, you don't know what the fuck they are doing until it's almost done.
And it isn't confirmed.
