hey guys, when i got home a bit ago i noticed green spots in some of my jars i thought were colonizing well anyhow, can i just empty the jars outside and let bleach soak in the jars to clean them? or do i really have to boil them for an hour? i hate using so much gas inthis hobby lol... im sure the answer to this is out there already but honestly, im too drunk to want to search the forums thanks for any help!

Treat that shit like the plague. Empty it OUTSIDE and away from your grow area and rinse it out good outside with the hose. Then, I wipe it down with a bleach and vinegar mixture and fill it with the mixture. Put the lids in a separate container with the bleach vinegar. Let them soak for an hour or so, still outside of your house. After this I consider it safe to bring inside so I dump the bleach down the drain and rinse them off really good to get any bleach off. I would recommend pressure cooking them before using them for mushroom work. Is it overkill? Probably, but I'm not about to let trich ruin my grows if I can help it.

Always PC moldy jars before opening.
This will kill the mold spores so when you openthe jar, you are not bringing live spores back into your work area.
The spores will get all over you, your clothes, your hair, and could possibly ruin future projects.
Ignore bad advice of not sterilizing them first.

you can open the jars under water, like in a bucket. This will keep the spores from flying everywhere. Do it outside. Then take the bucket somewhere and dump it.

SJ and hacker are correct.
I prefer to PC my dirty jars, then empty them.
Then I wash them with warm soapy water to get any residue out and move on like it never happened

I really wouldnt mind PCing dirty jars but that would make me run my gas stove for like days straight lol and being a broke college kid i dont have much money to spare so if possible i would definitely prefer non-cooking ways of cleaning thanks a ton guys for the input! This time im going to do spiritballs way and see what happens if i get the same contam again i guess ill just have to suck it up and PC

unfortunately i kind of do lol i think i got a dirty syringe. 20 out of 22 contamed recently. ive put them outside but i didnt know what to do with them haha i was thinking of switching over to pp5 plastic containers but idk yet. 20 jars would be 3 pc runs at 90 mins each=4.5 hours plus the cooldown times. just a pain in the ass
