And to think, I hear on a daily basis people saying 'I can't wait to get out of this shitty town.' If only they knew...

You know what I bet they weren't even the first of the year. Where's the photo next to a newspaper?
Edit in reference to that witch nut that claimed to have the first libs.

I am planning to go to Peak District in September but I have no clue where to go after arriving in Sheffield, I found hints for two locations but not too sure how to get there using public transport or where to stay without having to camp. It is certainly going to be an adventure. If you find any cheap connections to Buxton let me know please. Good luck!
There's a train line from Sheffield to Manchester with trains every 2 hours...Just look out of the window and you'll know where to get off (Or see the stop where most people get off) .
Surprisingly you may also find a large number growing along the main walking pathways so heading to the touristy areas will yield you some good results but you may have some competition at the height of the season.

Fair enough point if proof like that is necessary, but im fairly certain she found them as she called me with excitement right after she found the first one and it sounded genuine, although i didn't believe it was actually a lib at the time she sounded genuine that she'd found something, and sent pics straight away...
Either way the season is on, that's what matters

Well the libs are out and about so who cares who found the first one or who started the thread? The UK season has started!
Most official threads about UK libs are started by people with shitty phone pics who hardly ever come back to post on the site (Often with tiny libs that they have ripped up just so that they could start a thread on an internet forum!)...this one is hardly any different from any other although the starter of the thread didn't even find the libs himself.
Who cares? Go and find some libs and post back here .
I can't be bothered taking photos of tiny libs...I will post some of my finds here to encourage others to go and look but so far what I have found has been small or weather beaten.
This is not a competition just a place to share knowledge and experience .
P.S If in doubt ask joie He knows what he's talking about .

Will be heading out this year in the west of Scotland, but after finding nothing last year every time has anyone here ever found any libs in the Campsies? Its somewhere relatively close that I didn't try last year and I don't want to constantly waste time and money checking places where nothing is growing again.

@ Hugry Goldfish, I also live in the white peak I just work at chapel (dark peak). That quote was actually a quote from the Chronic, its just the quote button on my phone doesn't seem to be working for some reason. U never know, we might stumble into eachother on a foray, not that any of us would would even know if we did but I'm hopefully going to be out and about a lot this year, I'm after sloes for gin and elderberries and other hedgrow berries for wine. Anybody have any thoughts on adding mushrooms to the wine?

It has begun . Still early days but none the less .Will have to get my hiking boots out and head for the hills in the next few weeks . As of any year here ,there are loads of newbs joining this thread that could do with researching about hunting . http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13317348/fpart/1/vc/1 This is not my thread but it helped me out a lot when I first started out . It's nice to see some old faces coming back again and I just hope this season will be better than the last one.

What's hapnin all you mad shroomers?! Wasn't hunting but I spotted these in my parents' garden an I'm struggling to tell if they are libs or not. Can anyone with a keen eye lend a hand please?

In central Scotland, raining today an past few days. There's quite a few species about so they might not be libs. Fairly new to hunting, was out last year but I've always been with experienced people so I can't make the call Cheers team

The stem looks quite straight for a lib, i'd check for a pellicle as the colour/texture of the cap looks good

I am not dead keen on having loads of lib pictures on my phone/cam from a security perspective.... especially if I am actively collecting.
Some of these loacations are fairly remote and you need a car. Walking round fields off the beaten track is not without risks of a police call from land owner, especially on private land or a random police drive past (which I had year before last). In the south you often have to venture on private land because lib territory is increasingly rare with public access, and public access means heavy competition normally.
For 3 years seriously intense hunting I have only 4 known spots ! Lib land in the south it becoming like hens teeth. Unless you live on moors you have a big job on.
Still classified as a Class A drug here (wet or dry and in any quantity), worth remembering. Sure it's fun but you have to consider risk too.

Nice to know that liberty season has begun. I though with the recent fall in temperature that maybe they would start poking their heads through the ground and sure enough the UK liberty cap thread of 2013 proves that they're coming around. I might check the fields later this week to see if I can find anything (coming from one of the colder areas of the UK I think I could get lucky).
Hopefully I have better luck than last year as I never found anything interesting. This was due to the fact that I started looking late in the season, only checked sides of the roads, and rarely hunted, but I'm much more determined now and seem to recognise which mushrooms are libs and which ones are not better through the photos I've seen. So with improved hunting measures being taken lets hope for the best .
