Hello, i birthed my cakes about a week ago and some have grown much faster than others. My question is when should i pick them? I heard you should once the color of the heads start to change color. Heres a pic of what i have so far and was wondering if the big ones are ready to be picked yet:

Yes. Usually you pick the mushroom before the veil breaks. Don't want spores getting everywhere

its a matter of preference really, if you want the caps open all the way and dont mind spores then go for it. if you want them with more closed caps then pic 'em now
personally myself i just pick mine whenever i have time to sit down and pic them all whether its open caps or the veil is stretched to the breaking point.

I appreciate all the input. Helps greatly. What is the best method to dry the wet mushrooms? Does oven method kill psyocilin?

if you put it on low heat and poit a fan in you should be good, unless you have some crazy jewish oven
you could also air dry in front of a fan or use a desiccant chamber, i use a dhydrator

Thanks again for the input. I live in Florida where its hot and humid and was wondering if any one ever has had luck drying them outside? Like putting them in a paper bag and letting them sit in the sun for awhile

This is a great idea if you want aerial myc all over your shrooms
Edit: On second thought, I myself just went slightly retarded not thinking that brown paper bags are on the porous side... Might work if you didn't close the bag. However, you've been given some way better ideas.

I edited right after you quoted me, like I said, it may work, but you've been given better ideas. There's really nothing wrong with letting them sit for a bit and drying naturally. Not too sure where the "psilocybin oxidizes quickly" thing came from, mushrooms create an environment for that psilocybin to reside without breaking down... Think about it, the meso-americans definitely did not use ovens or desiccant chambers or any of our new-age fancy shit to dry their shrooms.... I one time was really bored, had a bunch of shrooms that have randomly appeared around the house over time and I throw them in a pile on the counter, got bored one day, and ate 2-2.5 grams for shits and giggles, ended up tripping balls way harder than normal.

My oven only goes to down to 170 F so i was looking for another way to dry them without going out and spending money. Think i may just do the dehydrator method though.

my dehydrator gets up in that range sometimes psilocyben doesnt brake down until well over 300 degrees. if you do decide to dry them in a paper bag be warned that they will only be so dry as the humidity outside will make them less dry.
