College/University is a tool

I'd like to write this short thing here because I think it's important. I wish someone told me this is how it works a while back
I encourage everyone to find what you love doing and what you wanna do for the rest of your life and then go get it. Yes I know it can be super hard but that's a topic for another time. If your dream job requires a degree then yes go get your education. For example I love journalism and I wanna be part of that profession so much which is why I'm studying journalism. But if your dream doesn't need an education dont waste your time and money because that's what "you're supposed to do"
Just some 2 cents. Unless you don't give a shit and just want pay for as little amount of work possible then just go to law school I guess

They have to do lots of work. Busy work. And bitchwork for the partners when they finally get that 3 year juris doctorate and start having to work 80 hours a week for $40k a year.

Yeah, law is terrible work - money ratio. OPs sentence isn't proper English though, so I'm not even sure what he was trying to say.

Drink some DXM and it might make sense
He has a good point though. I think the trades are looked over far too often as really good careers in favor of going to college for "IDK YET GUYS" in most cases.

Do you really need to go to college to become a journalist?
Just remember, one of the greatest journalists of all time never went to college......

You can say that about every field of study (save for maybe medical)
College is NOT for everyone, but people sure treat it that way.
I fucking love it though

That better be Hunter S. Thompson, but he doesn't look like he's on everything...

Medical, engineering, law, accounting - really any professional trade.
Journalism is absolutely a profession for which you do not need to go to university. A person's success in journalism is driven entirely by the material that they produce.

You're right, it's like going to school for art.

There's probably 100 people in the world who SHOULD be attending school for art. Meanwhile there's at least 100 times that amount who shouldn't

That said, the bachelor's degree is your ticket in...

I know that. Which is why I struggled a bit with this thought process I wrote about here. You still need a way to get in though and it helps you meet people in the field. But you need to start producing content before you graduate of course
And yes law requires a lot of work. But if you don't like it you can still pull through. You can not become a doctor if you don't care about it, the career will be super hard. Law just requires memory. That's what I meant by its good to study if you dont really care or dont particularly like anything. it was just a stupid example anyway

I would consider Journalism an art.
I took two years of journalism classes in High School and there really isn't much to sit around and learn as far as Journalism goes. You just have to be able to write well and have a good story, bam there you go, you are now a journalist.
I'm actually considering doing some freelance work next year.

lawyers have to go through so much fucking schooling its ridiculous. if you arent serious about being a lawyer youll probably fail. then you have to devote pretty much your life to it for 20 years before the profession really starts to reward you with lucrative success. At least thats what ive heard.
I have a cousin who is very intelligent, went to law school and aced it, all that stuff. Got a really good high paying job in the industry. He quit within a year and a half because he was working himself to death. I have no idea what hes doing now, but it certainly doesnt involve law.

Gives you a good idea why so many lawyers are unemployed.
A lot of people have the mindset that they don't have to work hard and will get rich if they just go to law school.

Some of the faculty at my university who I respect the most have JD's they don't even use because they became disillusioned with the field and simply moved on rather than selling their lives being miserable.

That is a huge misconception about law. Lawyers on average make ~$60 000/year. That's pretty terrible considering the amount of schooling you have to do and the work the job requires. Engineering on the other hand entry level positions are $60 000/year with just a bachelor's.
You have to be super passionate about law to make it work.
