I went back to the spots today. They were almost all gone!!! I think the deer ate them. I cleared around the bases of them and think it lead the deer or someone else right to them Its ok though I still got another bunch to bring home. took a little crawling under pine trees. itchy, poison ivy filled pine trees I think I found a royal amanita! heres pics

The right mushroom on the second to last pic is Chlorophyllum rhacodes, or one of the 2 other very closely related and also edible species (They are all classed as 'Shaggy Parasol's.). I think deer are also a fan of Russula's.

It's worth looking up the species, it's one that disagrees with a small minority of people. It's also important to familiarise yourself with the Lepiota genus as it contains some deadly species, and they can bear some resemblance to the various edible Parasols.

Oh and even more importantly familiarise yourself with Chlorophyllum molybdites as it bears a very strong resemblance. It is poisonous. However it has green spores (instead of white). I'm not sure how you would go about telling one apart for sure that is in the stage of development that yours is in, other than that C. molybdites is a grassland species. Here in England it's easy as they don't occur here.

On another note/question. I dried most of them in the oven at 170 which is the lowest setting I have. They turned out nice and crispy like a cracker so I put them in a bag and stored them in the pantry. when I went to add to them the previous dried pieces were kinda bendy. is this normal? or do they need dried more. I had em in there for 4+hrs.

I'd watch out on that Chlorophyllum. Are you saying that C. molybdites doesn't grow in Europe? If so that's a good tidbit that I didn't know.

Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me identify these. They were found in northeast wisconsin, growing out of the ground, right at the base of pine trees. I am thinking maybe Amanita Muscaria. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Guys, if you start your own ID requests, you won't be hijacking this thread. Just saying.
