Weightlifting and flexing

So what do you think about weightlifting and flexing? Some believe that flexing helps definition as well as strength.
I've read a few different things, some say they flex the muscles they're working between sets to keep the muscle(s) constantly stressed. I personally believe that to be counterproductive because if you're trying to build strength, why would you mess with (imo) crucial resting periods?
Some say they flex when they cant work out due to injury or sedentary occupations. Supposedly to prevent atrophy.
Some say they'll flex after their workouts. Which to me seems the most rational. But I haven't been able to find much info on weather flexing is really valuable or not. At least nothing scientific.
While I was searching the subject I found an article not directly related to flexing but still interesting. It was about building strength. The commonly held belief for building strength/making your numbers go up is doing lower reps and higher weight. Now there is evidence to back up doing higher reps like 12-15, each time til failure. http://www.flexonline.com/training/truth-about-lifting-heavy?page=2

i heard or read somewhere that flexing was good, as it forces blood into your muscles - and that's never a bad thing when it comes to working out.
the obvious exception to this is when your muscles are ravaged after some intense session.

intrigued to learn more - as i sit in a desk all day

Yeah I've heard a few things about it being good too, that's why I looked into it. But haven't been able to find much. When you search flexing and weightlifting, isometrics pops up a lot.

It isn't to keep them stressed, its to increase blood flow. You shouldn't be flexing as hard as you can, either. It helps maintain blood flow while resting between sets and increase energy before your next set.
Flexing is also very important for nerve firing.

I definitely believe that flexing should be done apart from resistance training, especially resistance training that targets power and strength. Each rest period is too essential to give up to flexing, for without rest your exponential increase in weight may be negatively affected. The only time I could imagine flexing might be useful is in a routine specifically designed to include the exercise. Why would one want to do that? What benefit, when combined with resistance training, could it provide?
