Simple idea for faster wbs jar colonization.

I am thinking about people who grow mushrooms and one of the things that really sucks is how long it takes for mason jars to colonize after inoculation. It can take up to a month, and for people who don't wanna wait that's a long ass time to wait.
So here is my simple idea for increasing colonization speed:
- Simply use half pint jars instead of pint jars. If you do this then it should theoretically take half the time to colonize. If you just double up the amount of jars you have then it doesn't even matter. Also this makes it easier if you have a small pressure cooker to fit all the jars in.
Possible drawback:
- You increase the potential for contaminants because you have more jars. But if you just don't fuck around and practice sterile conditions you should be fine.

Interesting..I would think the 1/2 pints would be easier to sterilize as well.

The inoculation?
I disagree. I would rather take a little extra time at first to cut the waiting time in half.

Well my only concern comes from the fact that you are simply inoculating more jars and thus the chance of doing something wrong increases. But like i said, if you practice sterile conditions you should be fine.

Using g2g transfer my qt jars of wbs only take around a week to colonize. Using ms they only take slightly over 2 weeks. Using half pint jars for grains is a terrible idea. I don't even like using pint jars. The more jars you have the greater risk of one being contamed when you spawn to bulk. It is simple probability

Is g2g when you just take an already colonized jar and then inoc other uncolonized jars with little chunks of mycellium? How much grain does it take to knock up a fresh jar?

Well you can use as much as you want. You can take one fully colonized master jar and inoculate 10 to 20 jars depending on how much you use. The more you use the faster it will colonize. When I make my qt jars of wbs I make them a little over half full then when I do g2g I put enough in to make them 3/4 the way full. Then I give them a good shake. Once they are about 25 percent colonized I shake once more. I always make 6 qts at a time. 5 for spawn and 1 for a new master. You can store a fully colonized master in the fridge for a good while. I love g2g! It is super fast

Btw you can not do g2g in open air. It must be done in a glove/sab box or in laminar flow

I would think that LC is just as fast though no?

Obviously. What kind of retard would open up a sterile jar in not sterile conditions...

I don't think you're supposed to shake g2g jars after the initial shake?

You'd be surprised

Shake right after g2g transfer then once more at about 25% for best results

I would think it is more effective to use an LC. That way you can clone a promising specimen as well.
Just a thought though.
