Wisconsin: What Should I Grow?
    #18730995 - 08/20/13 05:45 AM (10 years, 6 months ago)

I'm Thinking Datura or Brugmansia
They would be quite easy and fun to grow

Will Kratom be expensive? because im contemplating that as well
:zomgzomgzomg:

btw im quite a newbie when it comes to growing plants
Any difficulty with the Datura or Brugmansia?

The biggest issue I have are aphids & spider mites. They also need to be protected from harsh winters/freezing temperatures. So you'll most likely need to keep them in pots. Klip & Wild Dagga are far more forgiving. Sinicuichi is also an easy grow. But once datura are established they can be pretty resilient, in my experience.

Why are you getting into gardening?  Drugs, fun, landscape aesthetics, food production?

This might be helpful for all food crops of interest: http://www.eagleheightsgardens.org/tips/vegetable_planting_guide.pdf

There is also something called the USDA plant hardiness zone map.  It is a good system to determine what will grow in your area.  http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/
You are probably in 3b or 4a.  A quick google search shows that brugmansia grows best in zones 9-11.  I would consider growing something else.

Desmanthus is fun to grow, it does very well in a Great Lakes climate IME. It's a perennial shrub that grows back from the roots every spring. There's DMT in the rootbark as with Mimosa hostilis and other DMT sources in the legume family. The foliage and flowers are pretty spectacular as well.

Get some san pedro and bridgesii.

I live in PA so its not common to see cactus around. People always comment on how cool they look and ask what they are. I always just say "i dont know, just something i got at the hardware store"

Second that, in texas they grow wild all over my front & back yard. Very hardy, and pretty. A good native plant is also a plus.
