Yep. I think it is safe to say groundhog. I got a couple of frames of it vandalizing my garden and walking into the trap, eating the bait and then leaving, but it is in a container file that can only be opened with the proprietary software made by the hunting camera company. I am going on a shopping spree and getting either an air rifle or just a .22. Any suggestions? I tried to sneak up on it once, the moment i scratched the itch on my nose, the think flew into it's hole like lightning. The thing is almost too good for its own sake...

If you know where its hole is, run a hose over to it, and he'll come out as soon as you start filling his hole up. When he does, trap him. Put a cage over his hole so when he pops out, he's caught.

Then you can release him elsewhere, or make BBQ. As for the gun, a 22 is better than a bb gun. The bb gun will just piss him off.

Well when you mean bb gun do you mean airsoft or like lead pellet/ metal bb. A friend of mine has a 1000fps airgun that shoots lead pellets and they have gone though a metal bucket...

Wow nice. BB gun is what i think of when you say air rifle. Perhaps my take on this is a little dated.

A good .22 will actually be cheaper than a good air rifle. I have a marlin-xt because I like bolt actions. If you want a semi-auto get a Ruger 10/22. I would not recommend the Mossberg 702s- my friend has one and it is a piece of shit. Mossberg also has shit-ass customer service. Also why not just throw some extra $ for something made in the USA?
Edit: I double checked and .22s are slightly more expensive than air rifles. I don't think it would be humane to try to kill anything bigger than a dove with one though.

I may indeed go shopping. I suppose I will get a .22. I also have always had a fancy to get a 1911 .45 ACP. Anyone know the rules/laws/hoops I need to jump though...

If you are really in New York then I would not bother. If you really want one, then I would start doing extensive research. 1911s are not very good guns (in terms of reliability) unless you buy a nice one ($1500+), and I don't know if any decent companies make New York compliant ones (Kimber, Nighthawk, Colt). Any full size semi-automatic handgun available in New York is going to be a bastardized piece of shit version of those available in more free states, and will therefore not retain the resale value that other guns would. If I lived in New York or some other anti-constitution state, I would just buy a revolver. You can mount a scope on the revolver for hunting. Smith and Wesson makes the best revolvers (IMO), but they are not necessarily the best value.

I dont know where you guys sit philosophically.
Here is my take on it. Ill only kill an animal if it threatens me, or if i need to eat it.
The exception to the rule is euthanasia for suffering pets.
If you have no intention of eating it, live trapping and releasing elsewhere would be more humane.

Yeah, I also am considering moving because nanny bloomberg and all the imbeciles here drive me NUTS. As far as the 1911 goes, I don't mind paying a lot to get a solid reliable gun. A firearm is like a car. If it don't work perfectly yer screwed when you need it. Can you recommend any place? And a "nice" 1911 manufacturer/model.

Nobody in the United States "needs" to eat animals.

As discussed earlier, capture-relocate-release is not in any way shape or form more humane.

I would go down to the local gun store (if there are any left up there) and discuss the situation with the people working there. As I said above (I may have not been very clear), there may not be such a thing as a "nice" 1911 that is legal to own/buy in New York. You need a license to purchase any handgun in New York, and you can only purchase shitty semi-auto handguns. I don't think that there is any website that bothers to stock semi-auto handguns that are legal in New York.
Move down here to Louisiana. You can buy all the e-cigs, guns, $3.50 packs of smokes, and 32 oz. sodas that you can afford.

I love my marlin .22 bolt. If you wanna fun gun get the 10/22 its probably the most customizable rifle out there, u can get thousands of parts to make it look/act like tons of guns.
U should b able to pick up a barely used bolt .22 for a hundred bucksish and a 10/22 for $150 - $250 depending on the kit/options.
Foir a .22lr scope I like my bsa .22 3-9x32mm

Word. I was very impressed with the quality of the Marlin. It exceeded my expectations (I got it online.) I like it more than the 10/22 but as you said the Ruger does have more after market parts than just about any other gun (besides maybe an AR-15.)

While trapping/relocating has it's negatives (orphaned babies, introduction to new territory etc) It is definitely more humane if you're other choice is killing it. Period. It's beyond me how this is trying to be justified. Silly almost. There are a lot of state laws & regulations against it, if that's what ya'll are going by. Sheesh. Everyone is entitled to opinion, however. Carry on.

Honestly I would kill an Animal Before I killed A plant I have always valued the lives of plants above animals.
Every step we take, Every move we make, We are killing Hundreds of living things. All of whom arguably Have a will to live. So Accepting this fact I do what I can To Take Life only as Necissary, Spare life as often as possible. As These Things are all Beautiful and have no less a will to live than I.

If I had to survive on what my garden provided, i'd be front and center protecting it too. Eating what the land provides (eskimos fall here) is true nature, plants and animals both.

I was taking you seriously until i read this contradiction. I suppose animals have less of a will than plants?

Ha...okay. Sure some people survive solely on junk from the stores. But as you said we literally become what we eat, that's where eating wisely and responsibly comes into play. Harvesting a sustainable amount of plants and animals for survival and not to throw nature any further off balance.
Excusing myself from this thread i guess, there won't be any winners. Bless ya'll.
