Few to no pins
    #18729634 - 08/19/13 08:33 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

As the title ses, I have a few cakes that haven't gotten any pins. They have been in the SGFC for a couple weeks now. Out of all of them only one has produced a single fruit (Which is fully grown and healthy). I have had great success in the past with only doing a few cakes at a time and it worked out good.

My question is... Why won't the others pin and what should I do?
They feel really heavy like saturated with water but the mycellium looks great. I'm wondering if it's because I'm not home enough to give them F.A.E and it's causing them not to pin? That's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with, because in the past It's worked with only a couple. (It's a small SGFC).

The only way mycelium can actually create fruit bodies is based on how the water EVAPORATES from the mycelium. Mycelium is a really stringy, sticky wet cottony substance that is too soft to create stocks and crunchy caps when dried.

You need to fan really hard constantly and start misting them after the first few fans. Fanning is your way of forcing a little air into the water and help it evaporate. Running lights 12/12 is a good way of creating evaporation too. The heat helps...
