Habitat:

Lots of fruits today, I should have been out there a few days ago, some were already rotten but probably 20 to 30 in all I saw today.

The biggest fruit I've ever found of this species.

Fucking awesome Phish! I'm gonna have to get the cinch on that habitat... I swear, we have had/will be having the best weather all week. Fuck mods who are gonna edit this shit. LET IT RAIN! Actually, its more like the subtle mist that's gonna keep fruiting steady. Its GO time. I bet you snagged a few derrumbes today too, no?

Found caerulescens too, pretty good bit but I left them. Was so excited about all the atlantis fruits I only took a few pics of them.

Yeah I'm stressed to say that big one I previously mentioned is caerulescens? Idk tho. I do know that clearly you've got some interesting finds that need to be scoped/sequenced!

I'd be willing to bet you that all of these are the same species. I've found a cluster that looked just like the big one and it was determined to be atlantis by workman. Guarantee it's not caerulescens. I'm going to send fresh samples out and get it solved once and for all.

these are rare and don't grow very many places so diggng up the patch for the sclerotia seems rather foolish. I could just grow them indoors and harvest the sclerotia that way. It would be cool to see how large the stones get naturally but its just not worth it.

hehe, curiosity killed the mushroom patch!
Not saying that I, personally, would advocate diggin for truffles from a super rare shroom, just curious if it had been done.
I hear that caerulescens have sclerotia as well, but I'd certainly never go digging through my patch.

I feel like all three of those pictured in LK's old photos are conspecific with P. mexicana, as recent study has shown. I think what I'm trying to say is that the ones that "look like P. caerulescens" belong in section Cordisporae. . Not that they look like P. caerulescens, but that they appear similar to P. caerulescens in the cap and stem.

Have you given them a go yet? Or have you ever? How many grams does it take to put you in? I imagine them to be VERY strong in the 1-1.75 g. range... Almost like Pan cyans in potency.

Yes, it does. Unfortunately, the unknown was never examined microscopically, so we can only speculate on the species by the pictures alone.

I figure you know the usual tricks?... Taking the print in nature (same relative temp and humidity), put it under a shotglass or dish, or keep the cap hydrated by putting a drop of water on it (probably the worst idea with these). I don't know why they wouldn't be dropping prints. Unless they were super pissed off and sterile, but I don't see how... They look so healthy.

NGH its hard to see in this pic unless you know they are there, but there are atlantis and caerulescens growing 5 or 6 feet from each other. the atlantis you see at the bottom of the pic and 3 caerulescens above it in the pic to the upper right center of the pic. can you find them? Hey it's like a wheres waldo for mushrooms...

Yeah I know most of the tricks that usually work hash but they just barely drop spores. I have two super faint prints. I took a container out there with me and set it to print as soon as I found some but no droppage. They aren't sterile so I don't know what the deal is

Weird man. Hope you find that one that drops a heavy load... He's out there somewhere! Speaking of sterility, have you ever found a sterile weilii? I think I found one the other week. There were only a few gill blades, and only partially on each where there were spores. The rest of the entire mature fruit was totally bare. The cap was awkwardly cream-colored and it caught my attention immediately.

Wow...found them. I spotted the caerulescens easy enough but had trouble finding the Atlantis. If the Atlantis is by itself at the very bottom, it looks bigger than I would think.
