Habitat:

Lots of fruits today, I should have been out there a few days ago, some were already rotten but probably 20 to 30 in all I saw today.

The biggest fruit I've ever found of this species.

Fucking awesome Phish! I'm gonna have to get the cinch on that habitat... I swear, we have had/will be having the best weather all week. Fuck mods who are gonna edit this shit. LET IT RAIN! Actually, its more like the subtle mist that's gonna keep fruiting steady. Its GO time. I bet you snagged a few derrumbes today too, no?

Found caerulescens too, pretty good bit but I left them. Was so excited about all the atlantis fruits I only took a few pics of them.

That one on the left looks like a totally different deal. The one in the middle is clearly section Mexicanae, but I can't say that about that large one...

Yeah I'm stressed to say that big one I previously mentioned is caerulescens? Idk tho. I do know that clearly you've got some interesting finds that need to be scoped/sequenced!

I'd be willing to bet you that all of these are the same species. I've found a cluster that looked just like the big one and it was determined to be atlantis by workman. Guarantee it's not caerulescens. I'm going to send fresh samples out and get it solved once and for all.

do you see how completely the caerulescens I found there look? They always look that way there too, completely natural habitat where these are found.

Beautiful finds!!! Have you ever dug for the truffles? I hear that they will produce sclerotia.

these are rare and don't grow very many places so diggng up the patch for the sclerotia seems rather foolish. I could just grow them indoors and harvest the sclerotia that way. It would be cool to see how large the stones get naturally but its just not worth it.

hehe, curiosity killed the mushroom patch!
Not saying that I, personally, would advocate diggin for truffles from a super rare shroom, just curious if it had been done.
I hear that caerulescens have sclerotia as well, but I'd certainly never go digging through my patch.

I feel like all three of those pictured in LK's old photos are conspecific with P. mexicana, as recent study has shown. I think what I'm trying to say is that the ones that "look like P. caerulescens" belong in section Cordisporae. . Not that they look like P. caerulescens, but that they appear similar to P. caerulescens in the cap and stem.
