Odd Question about Spore color...
    #18728886 - 08/19/13 06:00 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

This is a bit of an odd question, but I'm wondering what the most common spore color is? How did spores evolve to have different shades of color, and what would that purpose serve? If I had to guess, I'd say white is the most common color, but then again, who knows... Alan? Are you out there? I feel like this is along some of the lines of the work you do with DNA and observing which species were born from other species, etc. I'm intrigued :strokebeard:

I'm gonna guess brown as the most common...  Can't wait for Alan's take...

--------------------
"Shrub, 30-90 cm. Leaves 2.5-) 4-9 cm, sessile or amplexicaul, broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse or rounded to subapiculate or subacute, when crushed not smelling of goats."

"The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

Yeah but there are way too many different variations of brown belonging to too many different classes of fungi. That seems tricky to objectify. White is white, and belongs to what I think is the majority. Just something i've got rolling around the ol' noggin :dawerp:

Dark spores have much more protection from UV light.  White spores are only good for a day or 2 of direct sunlight.

Dood. Knowledge bombs. Love it. This steers my thoughts in a new direction.
