Bluing pluteus and possible inactive gym Ohio:::UPDATE 2nd pluteus page 2
    #18726964 - 08/19/13 10:51 AM (10 years, 6 months ago)

I went out hunting for blue foot today and found this. I tried to get a print. I couldn't seem to get anything out of it even after adding water drops to cap and using a cup.

I picked this but it must of been too young and also looked like ants may have gotten into it.
The cap hadn't opened fully. Didn't notice before I picked it.
I realize now I should of took more pictures.

I found a lot of what is probably Amanita muscaria var. guessowii yesterday.

Earth star about a month ago.

Don't know what these are.

Good luck hunting.
The only one I know that looks like guessowii is flavoconia.
I think they're guessowii because the shaggy base like this

When I found it, it looked a little blue. I played with the stem and left it sitting on a fallen tree. I can back after about 30 mins and it was more noticeable.

It's cool I've read at least 13 threads since I've joined of people eating random mushrooms.

What makes you say that? The Pluteus in the first photo series is most certainly active.

Yes it is, its called Pluteus salicinus.

Due to the grey cap, and blue bruising. If it has a lighter tan brown cap and bruises blue, its Pluteus cyanopus. If you want micro done, i would be more than happy to do some, im awaiting one more collection then im going to start scoping and studying the physical aspect of these bluing plutei

I took it back out to the woods because I have no good way to dry them.
I tried the oven on 200 before but it just kinda burnt the mushrooms to nothing.
If I find any more I'll give it another try. Thanks for the help.

NOOO!
You should just dry them on a piece of paper inside, preferably on a fan, but they only need to be mostly dry to ship
Good find, it looks like hardwood, do you recall the tree?

Alright.
Forgot to take a picture of the tree because I got excited. I might be able to find the tree when I go out tomorrow. I remember the general area well because I find morels there.

I thought I could re-find a log, and I failed  left a ton of pins behind and wanted to check up.
But I'm not all that familiar with the area, went in from the southern end instead of northern, good luck with your re-find

Oh man, I'm totally sorry OP. I've gotta go take another look at that picture.

I'll talk out of my ass less in the future

Edit: Wow, just looked it up on wiki. Never heard of those before, and don't remember seeing it in "psilocybin mushrooms of the world." But it must be in there somewhere.

thanks for teaching me something!!

Either that is Pluteus cyanopus, or what I found last year was cyanopus or a totally different bluing species. These salicinus I found last year had radial lines on the cap, and the stems were much skinnier in relation to the cap and twisted a bit.

I'm no expert either, but I recently posted a picture of one I found that I think is laetiporus sulphureus that looks pretty similar to #3. Yellow pore surface, was an older specimen whose color had faded to pretty much white, with a sort of peach hue on the top of it. Supposedly a choice edible if that's the right ID.

Your first picture looks off for the bluing pluteus, 2 and 3 look better but i dont know....
Sometimes stems are twisted, sometimes not, also note that the striations are on all the bluing Pluteus.
yours in 2/3 are salicinus if they showed bruising.

Pic 1 is just younger versions of 2 and 3. Same patch and whatnot. They blued I guess. Different in the way that a Psilocybe bruises blue, but there was always a greenish blue tinge where cut or pinched. Last year's "bluing pluteus" thread had all the info about this collection. Sorry to thread jack. I think OP's photo is very interesting in the flakey appearance of the cap. That is something worth noting for sure. :takingnotes:
