Are these Papaver Somniferum??
    #18726903 - 08/19/13 10:31 AM (10 years, 6 months ago)

They are dried,so of course its harder to tell... But it looks like they were taken very good care of because there are no puncture wounds or scrapers on the pods themselves... I think these were either taken VERY well care of,or they are a different Papaver species..

What do you guys think??

Well, they definitely do look like it. I'm not aware of any other species that has pods like these, P. orientale looks very different.
Not everyone grows drug plants for drugs, dry P. somniferum pods are very popular in flower arrangements, and it really wouldn't look good if they appeared to have opium harvested from them.

...but remember: pods for flower arrangements are often treated/extracted to remove the interesting compounds. In europe nearly all pods for this purpose are absolutely useless...

only if you buy them already grown probably?

they only have a 120 day life cycle. Might as well grow your own flowers right?
