Pressure Cooker Question
    #18726269 - 08/19/13 07:21 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I have a decent Presto PC but I've been having some issues with it of late and I was thinking of picking up an AA model. I saw one one for 175 USD online, which I think is a pretty good deal considering some of the prices that I've seen elsewhere, and it has a 15 quart capacity. However, sometimes I may only prepare one small pint jar of LC or something, so I was wondering if having such a big PC was not efficient, if that makes sense. So basically I'm not into bulk growing, but I like the idea of a high-quality PC, and I'm concerned it's too big.

It will take more energy to get it up to pressure, yes, since it is a larger space that needs to be filled with vapor, plus the larger amount of water required to use.  I've got two sizes just for that reason.

Get the AA 921 at the minimum. If you decide to get into agar work you might not be able to fit the agar vessel(typically a liquor bottle) in the PC to sterilize it in the 15qt pc. The 921 dimensions are the same as the 15 qt one except it is taller. Which will be tall enough for a liquor bottle and be able to fit 10 qt jars vs 7 for the 15qt cooker.

Right exactly so can I use something as a filler in the PC to take up space? Like other jars or something else?

Agar doesn't mean he has to be doing bulk... People who stick strictly to PFtek and operate on a smaller scale also like to clone fruits too.

yeah I guess--but somebody that stays with cakes just aint gonna do agar---when your foolin with agar you're going for a nice productive isolate--and why waste it growing it out on a relatively low producing cake??

Cakes can put out monster flushes, I'm sure an isolate would be able to help with that goal.

I do take this seriously, but I don't want to do bulk for a few reasons. If I went to bulk, I don't know what I'd do with all those mushrooms. The only possible outcome of that scenario is that I would start selling mushrooms, and I don't want to get into that. I don't need the money right now either. I'm doing this because I'm interested in cultivation, honestly, and I like the challenge.

Anyway, I was looking at the 10.5 quart model, which somehow has more volume than the 15.5 quart model. The 15.5q is 175 on Amazon and the 10.5q is 200.

I should also mention that my current PC is adequate at 8 quarts, but I've been having some issues with it recently and that's why I'm in the market for a better model. The last time I ran it I got a jet of steam shooting directly downward from the seal. I also break jars alot, which I think has something to do with it being over capacity when I put a few quart jars in it.
