Why does everybody love Fallout 3 more than NV?

Seriously... the "ending" was meh, abrupt, and the main story is easier to accidentally rush through and finish without realizing what you're doing than NV. NV has improved game mechanics and it's add-ons seem to be a bit better.
Fallout 3 The Pitt was rather pointless for me, I refused to take "the cure" and I didn't kill any main characters, so basically I got a message saying "whatever dude okay bye DLC over" and that was it for me. No real conclusion or comprehensive storyhappenings. Mothership Zeta was okay, but it was a repetitive shootfest, lacked dialogue/backstory for the characters, and didn't feel like it belonged in the Fallout universe. Point Break had some great moments but the conclusion didn't feel very weighted, and Operation Anchorage was basically an excuse to have a DLC that's basically an arcade-style FPS with not much of a story, in a game engine that's great for an RPG but not so great for an arcadey FPS. Oh, and the main enemies in F3 are super mutants, wheras NV has a larger amount of different animals and human enemies.
In all, I can't see why the majority of people prefer 3 to NV. They're both great games in their own right, but... why?

I like new vegas more simply because of the huge additions to crafting, and improved (slightly) engine. And the survival skill. I thought there were significantly more glitches in new vegas though. And no more bobbleheads
But I definitely like the fallout 3 map, and style much much more. And the map just seemed bigger and more in depth. It seems like they had alot more time to work on fallout 3. And perks at every level
I just bought all the DLC's for both games a few weeks ago, so I'll get back to you on my opinion of those.
I've sunk hundreds and hundreds of hours into those games. I think alot more than the average player
Edit: I read your whole OP now I forgot how cool it was that in F3 there were super mutants everywhere. They were a real challenge.
And by the way, I recently started playing both games only on the hardest difficulty and hardcore mode. For me, the difficulty of it makes it alot more fun for me. You have to use everything at your disposal to survive. especially drugs

And the endings to both games suck hard. Sorry, I have a lot to say about those two games.

Yeah the endings weren't so great but what I mean about the super mutants was, I DIDN'T like how many of them there were. They're all big and green and then you shoot them in the knee twice and they die at high levels. It feels weird bringing down such large beasts with so little firepower. Plus, they failed to have a conclusion to the FEV situation. It would've been nice if you could shut down the factory or something.
As for the maps... I gotta say, I personally preferred NV to Fallout 3, because Fallout 3 had way too many random rubble walls in the cities and actually had more invisible walls for me than NV.

I prefer NV to Fallout 3 too
Fallout 3 is great and all.. I like the maps... and the characters.
But NV just seems..... more evolved. Even though it was buggy as hell (well lets be honest.. they both were). I personally got more overall enjoyment out of NV. The combat, the storyline, V.A.T.S.. I dunno. I just enjoyed it more.

NV did a lot that I liked and wished had been in Fallout 3 like hardcore mode, follower commands, and iron sights etc, but Fallout 3 wins when it comes to atmosphere and story. IMO.
Fallout 3's world actually made me feel like I was in a post apocalyptic world where laws and morals didn't count for shit anymore.
I disliked how NV was not hit as hard by nukes or radiation and as a result I disliked how everything was more civilized, it didn't feel as dangerous or mysterious.
Also Fallout 3's music > NV's music easily same goes for characterization and side quests I also found the story of Fallout 3 to be much more focused and worthwhile (granted the end isn't all that great but the story in NV falls flat as soon as you kill Benny.) Oh, and Fallout 3's dlc was WAY better.
Edit: Oh and the western mojave wasteland setting of NV just totally paled in comparison to the ruins of DC and the capital wasteland, just saying. The grittiness and bombed out buildings just felt more real and menacing to me, drew me in a lot more than little country towns that make the world look like the apocalypse never happened.

I'll agree with you there.. in terms of the mojave wasteland VS the ruins of DC... Fallout 3 map/terrain definitely had that super epic feel to it.

I couldn't get into new vegas at all. I liked Fallout 3 a lot more. I had no complaints about the game. The ending could of been better, but hey, its an apocalyptic world... it wasn't made for happy endings.

Ohh yeah. I totally agree about the music in fallout 3 being wayyy better. Every second of 3 dogs rants are burned into my brain. And that "iron on his hip" song in NV annoys me..
Both games needed more songs though.

I liked Fallout 3 a lot more then New Vegas, I could never get too into New Vagas. That being said, I still feel like Obsidian did a pretty good job with it, you could hardly tell it was produced by a different group of people. My friend said they announced they have been working on Fallout 4, so if thats true, I'm super excited for that.

Me too dude, SOOOO excited for fallout 4. As long as its not like fucking skyrim (not much fucking content )
But imagine the fallout 3 world on the engine they used for skyrim. Except since they already have the engine now, they could spend more time making an in depth game with lots of character again. And endless replay-ability. Since it'll be next gen, maybe the map will be the biggest, and most in depth bethesda has ever made.
I will literally cum if they make this game up to my wildest expectations.

I totally agree Oblivion was ten times the game Skyrim was.
I was looking into Fallout4 and apparently Bethesda says... "You'll get no tips from me. But the Mojave Wasteland was a fun place to explore, wasn't it?"
No clue what that means but I really hope they don't just do another New Vegas.

Oh mee god, Oblivion is easily my favorite game of all fucking time.
And I've read the same thing about the mojave being a fun place to explore... I didn't like the mojave much... and if they keep going further in time with Fallout... uuuughhh..

Skyrim is unplayable without the DLC I can tell you that much.
and yet none of the DLC came remotely close to topping Shivering Isles.

Its happening more and more, games being released incomplete, and then they charge you more to complete it.
Its bullshit, and I hope we as consumers can find a way to encourage this to stop.
