I agree is what I meant with the chimp  I went out and found three more today (pics below) It seems like they are only in mixed forests with a few pines here and there. I searched numerous pine tree forests with nothing underneath them but pine needles.

Yessir poison Ivy. I used to catch it bad. now I catch it once a yr. then after that I seem to not catch it! 5 days of walking deer trails and trampling through bushes and I dont have it! I strip and take a shower right when I get home so that helps. I heard an old indian trick to eat a piece or chew on it and you wont catch it again. Im very skeptical bout that thought lol.

I've luckily never had it even once, my whole life I've been running around in it bare footed....no reaction. I've even rolled around in it when it was thick enough to resemble a bush multiple times.

I'm super glad about that too. I don't think I could handle plant allergies on top of all the bug bites I get. I think I would look like  a crackhead scratching non-stop if it were all combined. Might even find a new hobby.

p.s. You need to dig up the bases every time, doing as little damage to the fungus as possible. The stem and bulb are crucial to A muscaria ID. You're putting in plenty of work, you're going to find it soon.

TY for the advice domesticgnome! Its cool you dont catch it I have a few friends like that. I get my share of bug bites too but not real bad around here. I even almost ate a spider with a yellow eggsack on it riding the quad earlier!!! I was like WTF is that?! I spit it out and was like OMG! big one too lol. anyhow yeah I been bustin but looking for fungus. I been focusing on the amanita species lately. theyre so cool looking! I was riding around looking for mixed forests to find them almost all day. even in my car now I stop and look under peoples trees lmao! So I should cut them off at the cap when I get them? I think you mean not to pull up the bulbs right? I been breaking them off mid stem and trying to leave the bulbs intact. also should the younger (round) ones be left to mature or are they just the same when harvested? thanx again for the help and encouragement!:mushroom2:

Yeah, you got it. Make sure you dig up the base in tact We're looking for concentric rings around the base of the stem as well, so try not to damage the stem during the gathering process.

I really can't confidently say, man. Like I said I've never seen one, and would be surprised if I did where I live. Then the lack of stem and base doesn't assist my inexperience.

sorry about not pulling those all the way out. I was just worried after reading up more on the hunting forum that its best to cut them off with a knife becuse the mycelium reacts to growing better that way. So when I forgot my knife I just thought break em off half way and hopefully theyl come back next year. Its so hard at first to just appreciate their beauty and purpose, respect them without taking em out of the ground!

It shouldn't hurt them as long as you don't dig up a foot around them. I'm in west TN

west Tenesee...Cool. I recently went to colorado over near nederland and boulder and amanitas were often found there. The original red ones. Thats how I learned what they look like and been researching them since. I watched a video about a study where they gave two guys amanita and recorded their actions. Th idea was to see if all the fuss about amanita and people dying was true or not. both guys survived. their trip started by falling asleep or laying down for a while. then they let them out in nature. they felt more connected, energettic and one of the guys who had a boom box outside was trying to explain how he could see the music coming from it. the vibrations etc. cool documentary! Have to look that up again right quick

So not digging up a foot around em is because they drop spores or because the mycelium spreads on the forest floor?

Those look pretty ominous to me man. From the fist pics, it looks like you found a couple different closely related species.  Then there is the smoothed stemmed one that looks like it kill you .
If I did have the balls to eat muscaria, for yellow capped varieties, I'd go with the regular yellow A. muscaria with the bright white slightly shaggy looking stem.

Some of those could definitely hurt you.

Those look cool though for sure
