Fallout: New Vegas DLC

Ok, so I've never ventured into this Gaming Grotto, so go easy on me.
I know New Vegas has been out for a while, but life has been in the way a bit...anyway. I picked my game back up and started a new story line to help the Legion. At one point I wanted to play Dead Money. I went into the bunker and it asked me if I really wanted to start this story line. I got nervous and left because I was only like a level 10. Since then I've destroyed the Brotherhood of Steel...now it's telling me I need a key to get back in. Is that because I took out the BoS? I've scoured many gaming sites, and can't find an answer. I know there was some supposed glitch, but I went in one time already.
I REALLY don't want to save from a really old file. The last saved file I have from before they were destroyed, I was a level 22. Now I'm a level 42...that's a lot of fucking gameplay.

GTFO! NO GIRLS ALLOWED IN THE GAMING GROTO!
No but seriously though, I would say it is probably because you took out the BoS.
Then again it might very well be a glitch, Bethesda isn't exactly known for its bug free games. I was playing New Vegas a few months back and I remember encountering more than a few major bugs, you would think for a game that came out in 2010 the developers would have ironed that shit out a long as time ago.

A few bugs should be expected in such a massive game with as many variables as it has tossed into it.

Uh, I'm playing through dead money on level 3 right now and if it's any consolation you're not missing out on much.
That said, you could make a new profile, spend like 30 minutes on the beginning quests and then travel directly to the bunker. Again, you can start it at like level 2 and be fine. You wouldn't have it all in one play through but at least you'd still get to do it.

Yeah, I'm really just in it for the achievements. I mean, I'd really like it to be on one profile. But in the end, I guess it's okay. When I was searching for answers, I tried not to read any spoilers, but I noticed a lot of people saying it was hard...? So I guess that's not true?
Also, I dunno if you've played Old World Blues, but it mentions Elijah in that DLC a lot. You actually get one of his weapons. Do you know if that affects anything in Dead Money? Like extra story plot or something?

Eh not sure, I've only finished honest hearts out of the 4, and started old world blues on one profile (lost my save) and started dead money last week.
I doubt the extra story plot thing but you can always look at a guide or something after you finish to see if you missed any notes for lore or whatnot.

The only DLC I have left is Dead Money. Damn. I guess as a gamer, you always kinda hope for some of those stories to intertwine, but they rarely do.
I've looked through some of those websites, but I like talkin' to yous guys about it more
