My precious hair!

Whenever I shower in the morning, if I wet my hair and run my hands through it, idk like 20 hairs come out on my hands. Baldness doesn't really run in my family as far as I know. I'm 22. I did smoke cigarettes for 6 months but I've only smoked about a pack total in the past 5 weeks and am in the process of quitting.
I also have a nervous habit of twisting and pulling on my hair that I mainly engage in in private. I developed this habit about 7 years ago when I got anxiety from taking ritalin every day. I stopped taking stimulants but the habit stayed. When my hair is shorter I don't even do it.
Anyway, I DON'T WANNA GO BALD!!
How normal is hair loss in the shower?

Maybe you should start using natural shampoo/conditioner? Like with hazel and other oils and such...There's lots of recipes online

Hmmmm, didn't even think about that. I use Head and Shoulders shampoo, maybe its anti-dandruff properties are actually wreaking havoc on my scalp?
Putting lot's of synthetic chemicals on your head can't be great for you anyway.

Yeah. When i switched to natural products for my skin (acne problems) they did wonders. Maybe it'll work similarly for your hair I've been wanting to switch to natural shampoo/soap for a while.. but making your own is just more work than i wanna put into it right now

My hair is thick as fuck. It drives me nuts. I could probably supply hair to any entire country full of bald men(but I wouldn't because I'm simultaneously squeamish about cutting it).
A little earlier in the year after I sprayed some sparkly body glitter shit in my hair for a rave I noticed it was coming out in fistfuls months later. It actually made it a little bit more manageable and I had too much to begin with for it to look too funky, but it was distressing seeing my hair thin out like that. Never again.
In the meantime, I wouldn't worry too much. I've dated men with receding hairlines who were your age, as long as the rest of you is cool then it's nbd. If it makes you feel better then look into products or hair loss prevention.

As far as I can make out, I don't have any bald spots or receding hairlines.
yet.
Hmmm all this posting about hair loss seems to be me just asking for it though.

Do you have curly hair? If you have curls, all of the hairs that should be just falling out during the day get hung up in the nest that you call hair. I have curly hair and when I wash my hair (which isn't every day, cause I have super dry hair) it's like I could send that shit to locks of love, so much comes out.

Same here. My hair sheds a lot but I haven't gone bald yet. It's pretty curly and it dreads readily if I leave it alone for too long.

im sorry bro, just a couple things to keep in mind
-stressing over it doesnt help. in fact it probably hurts. -going bald is not that bad from an aesthetic standpoint. a beard and/or glasses make a bald guy look awesome.
so chill and see what happens

I agree.
Just be glad your a guy! Most of us will end up bald. I've heard wearing hats is bad, but I took it with a grain of salt
And also while on the subject,
You only need one soap!

I prefer the bar-soap (even on my head for my "long" ~10" hair), though; I always end up using too much of the liquid and a little bit of it (liquid) goes a LONG way.
And yes, my hair looks voluptuous every single day

anybody have any solutions to this?!
Im also loosing my hair.. im only 23.. It's beginning to make me look so much older.. I got some pills like.. last year for it but I never even touched them. Id have to take them the rest of my life apparently if I want to keep my hair... pisses me off.. Like OP said, every time I shower, I run my hand through my hair n my hands covered in hair.. I feel your pain brotha. That myth about "you lose X amount of hair daily".. I think thats bullshit.. unles mine just falls out n doesnt grow back. Does everyone have their hand covered in hair when they shower? I wouldnt think so.
Any solutions to this at all would be awesome..
On the flip side.. OP, if you are losing your hair. Start working out now! I guarantee if you keep at for half a year, youll be huge! Supposedly.. losing your hair is linked with high testosterone! So your losing your hair due to your levels so high but you gain muscle mass like nothin. DO you get angry easy??
Is their a way to lower testosterone??? I never looked into this stuff at all..

Yep. I have wavy hair and I lose probably between 50-100 hairs every morning in the shower and have been for as long as I can remember. If I was able to brush it throughout the day like someone with straight hair, I doubt I'd lose as many hairs.

hahaha I don't think your balding. After about two to three showers my drain starts getting clogged with how much hair I loose and I still have the thickest hair around.

Mine is so long that most of it gets wrapped around my fingers as I rinse the shampoo out. Then I just take all the hairs, swipe them on the shower wall, and then grab them all at the end when I get out of the shower. Easy clean up and no drain clogging.

Yeah, I can't brush my daily, either. Someone earlier stated that theirs practically dreads when they don't do something with it for a while...yeeeeah, that's me as well. Which is kinda cool, until hair-washing day comes around. Then it's a bitch.
Ballerium, weren't you the one in the Ladies forum that said you used that Organix brand shampoo and conditioner? What kind was it that you used? I bought some because you suggested it. I was out shopping and couldn't remember which one, so I bought the Brazilian Keratin one (I think). So far it's been great!!

Yeah that was me. I alternate between different ones. Lately I've been using argan oil & shea butter, and awapuhi ginger. But I've tried plenty of their other ones and they all work well IMO. I haven't tried the Brazilian Keratin one though. Does it work well on curly hair?

I really like it, but have nothing to compare it against. I figured when I run out I'll try something new. I almost bought the argan oil one though, so I might try that next. I had a lot of breakage because I kept my hair straight most of the time. That's why I chose keratin over the rest. I'm trying to come to terms with my curly hair, just for the health of it. Plus, when I can control it, I love it.
Didn't mean to semi-hijack the thread, Rorge! I'm sure curly-headed males could benefit from curly hair products. It's a very temperamental style, you know.

absolutely do not use the brazillian keratin treatments, they're great for the first few weeks but they often do a lot more damage than they give help in straightening hair. do some serious reading on the topic before using it

Yeah don't they put formaldehyde in it or something? Seems like I was reading something about that not too long ago. I like my hair wavy anyway though so I doubt I would ever use one. I was just inquiring about the shampoo and conditioner which, as far as I know doesn't actually straighten the hair.
But thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, I bought the keratin shampoo for strength. I was thinking keratin is to hair, kinda like collagen is to skin. Like for resiliency. Maybe I'm totally wrong. I just have a lot of breakage.

Hair is made of keratin I think, but I wonder if keratin in a shampoo really can become incorporated into an existing hair and strengthen it. My guess is that it can't but I never really looked into it.

Yeah I was wondering that too.
Laurelei, Organix also makes a thickening/strengthening one called Biotin & Collagen. I use it during the winter when my hair begins to feel weighed down. It makes mine noticeably thicker.

the keratin fills the pits in the hair and kinda bonds with it, it doesnt actually incorporate, more like a coating, it's part of why it works as a relaxer, it adds some weight so it straightens the hair, heat from things like blow drying, alcohols from hair products, chemical treatments such as perms, straighteners and colors all add to the damage s a proper keratin treatment is good if your hair is badly damaged, not so good if it's healthy
every time I get my hair cut the stylist says I have healthy hair, I tell them my mom was a stylist for almost 30 years and they're like "oh, that explain it"... yeah, I was her lab rat, that explains it

When my hair gets too dry I will rinse it/shower and then put a TINY bit of bag balm on my hands, rub it into my hands, then rub my hands through my hair. It takes longer to dry but it does seem to protect my hair well enough to bounce back the next day.
Only thing that KEEPS my hair from getting too dry is only washing it as needed. For me, that ranges from every few days when I'm working/sweating all day, to every other week whenever its Winter and I'm not sweating anywhere near as much.

Yeah, I mean I'm happy I haven't gone bald yet, but if I was there would be no point fretting about it. It's really the lack of self confidence that some people have about balding that's unattractive anyway. If you carry it like you don't give a shit, it doesn't seem to be a big deal really.

Hey Rorge, you should try 1T of baking soda (shampoo), followed by a few tablespoons of unfiltered apple cider vinegar (conditioner). Squeeze a wedge or two of lemon into the ACV for added softness. You can also apply a small amount (1/4tsp) of coconut oil into your hair prior to the shower. Let it sit for awhile and then wash. It's a called "no-poo" and I've been washing my hair two to three times a week since June after previously washing with high quality Matrix shampoos and conditioners every day for over a year and it's working wonderful. My hair has never felt better.

Same here.

I went through a shedding at that age. Had nice thick hair. 5 years later it's going again because of stress, now not growing back like it used to. Genetics sucks.
I really dont think smoking or drinking effects it as much as they say. But i've know people from highschool (back in the 90's) that use hair gel alot, it cuts off the roots from not getting air. Shit will fall out if you use alot of product. People I knew start going bald at 24. Oh well. Dont use anything in your hair and switch shampoo. rinse good then pray.
