Yerba mate as a psychoactive-experiments..?

I have been experimenting with yerba mate for quite some time now. I have been finding small results. Most of the time drank traditional way with the gourd. I am going to do a experiment, grinding all the herb down to a dust and boiling it for some time, making a thick and potent brew. I am first going to try this using the microwave. I just started drinking it now, I added honey and milk to make it less nasty tasting..(plain yerba mate is great..Just not when its this strong :P) 4:00 PM : starting to drink 4:11 PM : The taste is really strong, I have drank maybe 1/4th of the mug, and I am already starting to feel very aware and awake. Much like drinking couple cups of coffee in the morning. 4:15 PM: feeling quite a lot of mental clarity. Whilst listening to music the sounds are very sharp. 4:25 PM: still the same effects almost done the drink, just brewed another in the microwave, this time with some passion flower as well. Things seem to be brighter though, If I stare at the window the light coming out of it seems brighter and more vivid then usual.Again sound is very vivid. Second brew.: 4:30: starting my second cup, that has been boiled in the microwave for 2 minutes along with some passion flower added. I seem to have a lot of energy from the caffeine but it seems different no jitters or anything just pure CLEAR energy. 4:40: half done second cup, my fingers feel slightly weird. Everything I do seems to be spot on, typing is simple as hell and I am typing really fast. Definitely going to try this before going to work, I think it will give me very positive effects. Music sounds better then ever. 4:50: finishing off the cup, lots of lose powder on the bottom drank that too, although gross lol. 5:00: To end, I feel extremely good, I feel strong and full of energy (Please note, nothing like you get from coffee) colors are sooome what brighter, and sounds are much much more vivid and clear. Also feel as if my eyes can read things very fast, fingers typing fast, I just feel faster and more vivid, along with insanely clear thoughts. Will continue to do experiments, will be boiling some, some time soon and reduce it down a lot. Thanks for reading! If you have not tried yerba mate you should its great!

They are both solid drinks

I drink yerba mate every day when I wake up, it's my healthier/cooler alternative to coffee. It's custom in my country to do that
maybe it's that I'm used to it but I just feel a stimulant boost and mental clarity from it, not many drug like effects or anything

I thought mate just had caffeine in it. The few times I've used it, I've made a big french press full and had a few cups over an hour or two, and similar results: just felt very focused and energetic, while the same amount of coffee would have made me feel stressed out and uncomfortable. Possible that I just imagined that, but interesting anyway. Probably better for your stomach than coffee too, less acidic.

yo just make sure you aren't using boiling water for the yerba mate. if the water is too hot, it kills off all the good stuff. use HOT not boiling.
dont use hot water for kava kava either.

Mate has a stimulating and invigorating effect that refreshes both the body and the mind. High dosages can produce euphoric feelings with clear wakefulness. The appetite is usually suppressed. Because these effects are induced by at least three different substances (caffeine, theobromine, and chlorogenic acid), the effects of mate are not identical to those of caffeine alone. Side effects or unwanted effects are unknown (Holzl and Ohem 1993, 511).

careful though, kava is known to cause some liver problems alone, not to mention combined with tylenol, or alcohol.
it is good stuff tho i agree, get some fresh root so much better.

-- Ok here is the story on Kava:
Kava has been used extensively by pacific ocean cultures for thousands of years without serious health side effects beyond occasional skin rash. The problem only occured when western pharmaceutical companies looking to cash in on kava bought up large amounts of kava and turned it in to supplement pills, without realizing that only the Root of the Kava can be used. They included leaves and stems and bark in the pills that contained hepatoxic liver killing chemicals. This resulted in some people getting sick, and ever since people have had the impression that kava kills the liver, when in fact properly produced Kava (using a water, not alcohol extraction of the root only) seems quite safe in moderation, as long as it is not mixed with alcohol or certain other drugs.
Properly prepared the only side effect from kava should be a skin rash, and that is transient and only occurs in heavy use.
Conversely, several studies now demonstrate the potential medicinal benefits of kava, including several applications in the treatment of cancer and possibly alzheimers. Paradise Kava has a compilation of these studies on their website. --
