Oh, I'd probably put the original Wicker Man film on my top 10.

Altered States is another good older film.
I really should watch Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, because I feel like it'd be right up my alley...all this time I've been avoiding it because I thought Nicholas Cage(who's face I cannot stand to gaze upon in any capacity) was in it..turns out he's not!
I liked Fear and Loathing but I feel like it did a terrible terrible job about explaining what exactly was going on to people who weren't familiar with the book or premise. I feel like it could've been sooo much better than it was. The acting was phenomenal and it's still a good film, but not in my top 10 or even 25.

Honestly it is the best they could have done, moving a novel like Fear and Loathing to the big screen was an incredibly difficult undertaking.
Look what they did with The Rum Diary though, they changed things around so much in the movie (to fit a more conventional plot line) that they completely missed the entire point of the book.

Couldn't agree more about Murray playing HST Where the bufallo rome was fucking awesome, I can't beleive fear and loathing is so much more popular.

To me F&L is an experience. I saw it in theaters but I'll never forget watching it for the first time on mushrooms. I ordered the blu-ray like 5-6 years ago and watched it at home by myself on 4 grams. It was one of the funnest trips I've ever had. I felt like I was right there next to them for the entire movie.

True...but I read somewhere that Hunter S. Thompson was not actually in anyway involved in the making of the film(though Johnny Depp consulted him about the role and they became great friends irl). I heard that the rights were given/sold to an ex girlfriend, in actuality? Or something along those lines.
And I love Danny Boyle, he's another one of the directors I wanted to bring up.
Danny Boyle, Guillermo del Toro, Spike Jonze, Sofia Coppola(though I heard she directed The Bling Ring and I have next to no interest in seeing that), are all directors I really like.
Speaking of which...

and don't laugh, but...this one is one of my personal favorites, not gonna lie. Watching the beginning of that film hits me fucking hard, just after having several "close calls" out on roads with horses and witnessing a fatal horseback riding incident myself.

Right on When it comes to art some of the best works don't really have a "point". It's like when you look at a piece of art, and you really like it, but you can't exactly put your finger on why it is you like it. Or when you read a poem and the words bring out some sort of emotional response but you don't know why exactly.

Basketball diaries was greta, I used to listen to Jim Carrols music when I was in highschool so that was pretty cool to see.
Also, fear and loathing was good, but the book was way better. The movie was directed towards drug users and you couldn't tell what was going on. The book made a lot more sense. I read HST hated the movie and was angry about it being made.

I think you're right. I think she's credited as the producer of the film, right? Laila Nabulsi or something like that. I saw an interview with Hunter regarding the film and he was asked whether he liked it or not. He said he did, but said that he disagreed with how he was portrayed at times in the movie. For example he pretty much said he was disturbed at the scene on the restaurant patio where he throws coins on the ground (as a tip) when the midget waiter asked for a tip.

Unless he contradicted himself, this isn't true. Watch the documentary Breakfast with Hunter. He talks about the film there.

Yeah, something like that. I've gotta say, it must be incredibly difficult to watch a work of art that you created get turned into anything.
I've done a teeny, tiny bit of playwrighting and screenwriting in school and for really shitty amateur theatre and film companies my friends ran, and you kind of just have to accept that when you are doing anything that's collaborative in nature the end product will not look like it does originally, in your head.
And another director I forgot to bring up who sometimes puzzles me..is Woody Allen. I really love some of his stuff, but there's something about his style that I dislike that I can't put my finger on.

I troll Really though Citizen kane Chaplin's modern times The shining(kubrick) Jurassic park 1 Requiem for a dream And the rest will come to me later
You almost gave me a heart attack. I'll be honest I've never really been a fan of Citizen Kane, I mean I see how it was a revolutionary film for its time and all, but god damn is it a snore fest for me.
A little side note. I find it really funny how Justin Lin (director of the Fast and the Furious Movies) went to like 3 different film schools and has a bunch of film degrees, and then you have directors like kubrick and tarantino who barely finished High School
I really don't get why citizen kane is such a great movie to me. I had to watch it for a class and we had to write about our favorite movie we watched in the class. I just went with citizen kane and pretty much repeated reasons other critics liked it and slowly started to agree with them. After i wrote that out though for some reason the movie just stuck in my head and i realized if a movie sticks in your head for more than a week it's probably safe to say you like it. I've watched that and modern times at least 3 times since i took the course over a year ago. Buster keaton's the general is also good, but i fall asleep watching it and im to ocd about whether or not i'm watching the one with the original soundtrack to fully enjoy it.
Jesus i feel like a teachers pet just for enjoying all those old ass classic movies so much but fuck it.
And on a side note it's a sad day when you can't find a copy of citizen kane in any wal-mart or video store around.:smh:

Yeah, minus his brief cameo, and tutoring Depp, I don't think he had much of a say. I do recall reading somewhere that he bitched out Gilliam for wanting to do an animated sequence or something during the wave speech. I also remember reading that during the first screening of the movie Thompson would get up and scream random things during certain sequences. Sounds pretty accurate to me
Yup all good directors! The Bling Ring? Is that the one with Emma Watson? I might have to go watch that, only because I think Emma Watson is incredibly attractive
I can't see the first pic.
The Horse Whisperer....hmmmmm I swear I have seen it, I don't remember much about it though. Was it about like some lady who moves onto an Island with a bunch of wild horses? Or am I thinking of something else?
