Help with polypore ID
    #18723615 - 08/18/13 04:27 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Took a little walk at a nature preserve in New Jersey and had a few finds today. The first interesting one was this big polypore that was mostly white, with a bit of a peach coloring on top, and yellow on the pore surface. When I broke off a piece I saw a bit a of clear yellow fluid on the white inner flesh. Specimen was found around mostly broadleaf trees on a log in quite a cluster. No apparent bruising at first.. but didn't take a sample home to really check. The odor was quite fungal! Kinda appetizing. The flesh was a bit spongey, not too tough, and rather dry.

Here are some pictures.

Looks like Laetiporus cinncinatus.

I have a feeling it might be Laetiporus Sulphureus, but aged and faded to white.. I'm not really sure if that happens though. I'm very new to hunting.

Here are a few others, I found.

This guy was under a rock

This was slimy and got black crud on my hands. It smelled pretty rank as well. Was rather tough and woody.
