WBS began to germinate
    #18722489 - 08/18/13 11:27 AM (10 years, 6 months ago)

So I prepped some WBS last night.
This morning I went to PC and notice they had begun to germinate.
They had been towel dried.
Sprouts are still very small.

I'm 95% sure they will be ok after PC.
Only time this is bad is if they begin to sprout after they had already been germinated.

HOWEVER, anybody disagree? Has this gone bad for you in the past?

Use water that is as hot as your tap will get for your soak and it will prevent seeds from germinating.

Personally I would start over. I wouldn't start my grow on a shaky first step.

Na I read through old threads and the general consensus is that its fine.. so long as they start to sprout BEFORE pressure cooking. If they start to sprout after PC that means you didn't do it right.

I prep my WBS quick using hot water. First I soak in a pot and get rid of all the dirt and bad seeds, then I put it right on the stove top at a low heat setting. The water gets hot but does not boil. Leave the top on the pot for ~45 mins to an hour consistently checking moisture content and mixing. Remove from heat when perfect and dry.. THATS it... quick WBS prep with perfect moisture content every time.
Some may argue that soaking for ~12-14 hours is necessary to germinate the endospores and to make vulnerable for PC- but I say screw it I've never had any contam problems doing it this way.

I guess I just never left my jars to sit overnight before PC

I would just start over, I know theres threads that say you'll be fine.  There are also threads that say to use popcorn, ones that wipe their flame sterilized needles and others where soup cans can cause houses to burn down.  If you have your mind set on proceeding why not do half and half to see if the old info is still true?

meh, I bet they will be fine.
The more times you do this, the more you realize which factors will actually ruin things (burst grains, water content inside the jar, water content of WBS)... you quit following the teks for the most part and adapt certain things to work best for you.
I'll take note whether it works fine or not tho

I'm not debating this fact, only sharing my opinion.  It's not so much theres a tek approach to this, but why risk it?  Granted there are worst things, sure most likely the mycelium will consume the seedling but it could rot before that happens.

I'm not doubting your skills or experience, but I mean it is a discussion board.

Dont take me as being cocky or anything like that... i'm just discussing too! I do welcome your input and I do see your point.

I did make another batch after the fact anyhow so we'll see how it goes.

That's happened to me before.
Lost 4/10 jars but could be due to innco. I say just use them.

Is this the flammable can thread?  Either way, I was one of those people who was disagreeing that the can would actually catch fire.  Well, I was burning some 2 inch holes in my tub with an empty cream of chicken can, and guess what . . . That bitch went up in flames.  No biggy though, you can just blow it out seeing as the only thing thin enough to actually combust is the rim of the lid.

I feel . . . :derp:

Why not wait an extra 24 hours and have all ten?

Sounds like you got lucky with those six.

I prefer not to waste my time on potential problems.

Did you fruit those yet?

Anyhow, Frank, I'm having issues getting condensation on my walls. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY THREAD.
