Indoor kratom plant advice

In my location (zone 7) during most winters it will occasionally reach freezing temperatures/snow. I assume this means my plant must be potted and brought inside during the winter. I also, don't if I can leave it out in the summer (not sure what bugs will eat it), but I would like to.
I have read a few guides on indoor growing, but have a few questions still:
1) Most guides suggest a very large pot. My plant from BBB is 1-2", can I start it in somewhat of a smaller pot without reducing growth I would like to leave it at my windowsill during the winter to conserve space.
2) Also, do you think it will get sufficient light in a windowsill during the winter or should I buy some type of supplemental light(I know window light varies quite a bit)?
3) I have read about different potting mixes for kratom, what do you use?
4) Any other helpful advice that you have to offer?
Thanks.

There is no reason to put plants in a pot that is too large. In fact, you do not want a pot that is so large that water just sits in the soil nowhere near the roots of the plant. If your plant is only 2 inches tall then a half gallon pot will suffice for quite some time. I have never grown kratom, but I expect that it will not die during the winter in a windowsill due to a lack of light. It probably will jsut grow very slowly if at all. Supplemental lighting may speed up the growth rate, but probably not enough that it would be worth investing in the light and electricity.

I pay quite a bit of money upfront for my housing, but don't pay for electricity. Maybe it would be worth investing in some type of lighting. What type of light would encourage kratom growth? Could I just pick up a couple t5 lights? It would also, help my other window sill plants I suppose. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it is a tree. I'm not sure I follow where you are going with this. Care to extrapolate?

A grow light would help the plant a lot. I use a 130 watt grow light for the one I keep inside. The plant grows fast and it's a heavy feeder so I fertilise it regularly. I use a store bought quality potting mix.

Thanks. I just got my plant today. I put it in a little humidity dome and am going to transplant it tomorrow into 8" diameter pot with 2/3 miracle grow potting soil and 1/3 perlite. I have still yet to buy additional fertilizer, but I'll worry about that once I have it transplanted.
What type of light is your 130w light? <SNIP>
Thanks.

I use a globe like this with the bat wing shade. I use the 6400k blue light for growth.
That kind of shade and light can also be propped up on its side which can be handy if you aren't able to hang it up or if you have to move it around etc.
<SNIP>
You should also be able to harden it off and remove the humidity dome. When I first got mine I had it in a dome but then I hardened it off. I only use a humidity dome for cuttings. I live in a Mediterranean climate too.

Thanks for the info.

I was just thinking I might be able to fit some of my other plants under this light as well if I bought the longer two tube light I originally posted. I suppose this light would also be supplemental to my window grown cacti. What do you think? Thanks for your help.
Edit: Also,I will hopefully be taking the humidity dome off for good tomorrow when I transplant.

My apologies mods. I was unsure of links for non sponsor products because I had seen some in the past. Sponsor links seem to be enforced to an extent based only on the content of the product. I assume we have sponsors that sell lights and I can see why this was bad judgement.
